Can be repaired with DM, PC3000 and other software
The repair method using DM is as follows:
First, you need to download the DM universal version from the Internet and make a DM boot floppy disk. Then, execute DM and enter its main interface. In the main interface, press the Alt M key combination to enter DM's advanced mode. Position the cursor to the "(E)dit/View partitions" option and press Enter. The program will ask you to select the hard drive that needs to be repaired. After selecting the hard disk, press Enter to enter the partition viewing interface of the hard disk.
Select partition "1" in the partition list box. The partition information will be displayed in the partition information column, including partition format, capacity, starting cylinder and ending cylinder, etc. Remember the starting cylinder number and the ending cylinder number. Then, keep the cursor on partition No. 1 and press the Del key to delete the partition. When confirming deletion of the partition, select "Yes" and press Enter. In this way, partition No. 1 will be successfully deleted.
Keep the cursor on partition No. 1, and then press the Ins key to add a partition. Select the "DOS-FAT32" option in the partition type interface that appears, press Enter and enter the key step of repair - "Select Entry Mode" (set capacity mode). In this interface, be sure to select the "(C) ylinders" option and press Enter to enter the capacity input interface. In this interface, enter the capacity in terms of cylinders. For the first partition (that is, drive C), it starts from the first cylinder, but now we need to change the previous "0" to "1". As for the number of cylinders at the end of the partition later, there is no need to modify it. You can fill it in based on the number of cylinders at the end of partition No. 1.
After re-dividing partition No. 1, return to the partition interface, position the cursor to the "Save and Continue" option to save the settings, and then press the Esc key to exit DM. Finally, follow the prompts to restart your computer.
Just restart your computer and that’s it!
I chose the golden combination of Fbdisk and Diskgen.
★Combined use of Fbdisk and Diskgen
They are all small in size, only 100KB in total, and they all run in a DOS environment. The specific usage method is as follows: first download and copy them to the root directory of the hard disk C drive, and then connect the broken hard disk. For hard disks with severely damaged partition tables (usually unable to boot under Windows 98), they can only be booted under DOS. First run Diskgen, press the "Ctrl Alt" key combination after entering, and select the second hard drive in "File" so that we can see the specific partitioning of the second hard drive. If we want to re-partition this hard disk, we can delete all partitions, then save and exit; then run Fbdisk, select the hard disk to scan, and press "Y" to start scanning; if there are bad sectors, Fbdisk will automatically display their location Sectors and tracks, after the scan is completed, it will list all bad sectors. Finally, it will ask you if you want to write to the hard disk. If you select "Y", it will automatically hide the bad sectors. Press the Esc key to exit.
Run Diskgen again, we can observe the disk situation after Fbdisk processing. The location of bad sectors will be displayed in gray and white. If there are several small bad sectors connected together, we can expand it slightly and hide all these bad sectors through Diskgen. For this example, we can hide the following cells (two good areas are purple, two bad areas are gray-white, a total of about 100 MB, and they are discontinuous). At this point, we just need to make full use of the 3.9GB above. We can find that the first partition is red, which means it is the main active partition.
