Microsoft today launched Windows 11 Dev preview Build 25300 for people in the development channel to download and test. Today’s update content is mainly improvements and bug fixes, as well as new content in real-time subtitles and Snap.

First of all, live subtitles have support for more languages, after the feature first provided support for US English. Newly supported languages in this update include Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish and other English dialects.

There is also a new experimental UI in this version for the drop-down menu that appears when hovering over the app window’s maximize button. These experiments include displaying the app icon in the highlighted Snap area and adding the text "Snap this window" to make it clearer to users what the interface does.

The following is the complete change log of Build 25300 (machine translation):

Japanese real-time subtitles

To use this function, you can use the WIN Ctrl L keyboard shortcut to turn on real-time subtitles, or use the quick settings to open real-time subtitles. The accessibility flyout menu opens. When opened for the first time, Live Subtitles will prompt to download the required speech recognition support to enable subtitles on the device. If speech recognition support isn't available in your preferred Windows language, or you'd like support in a different language, you'll be able to download speech recognition support for Live Subtitles under Settings > Time & Language > Language & Region.

We look forward to you trying out live subtitles in more languages and want to hear your feedback.

Changes and Improvements

[Snap Layout]

We are experimenting with different approaches to Snap layout in the Dev Channel with Windows Insiders. We're looking into ways to improve the discoverability and usability of Snap layouts, such as reducing the hover time for the flyout menu to be invoked when you mouse over the Max/Resume button in the app's title bar. In addition to a few other tweaks, you'll notice that some handlers also pull in the icon for the application window you're working in and add a descriptive title. If you see one of these treatments, please give us feedback on your thoughts. As a reminder, it's normal for us to try out different concepts in the development channel to get feedback.

Example of Snap layout handling tried with Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel

[Voice Input]

While using the same Microsoft account Changes to sync voice typing settings across all devices you're signed in to, automatic punctuation, and the voice typing launcher, rolling out starting in Build 25227, are now available to all Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel. You can toggle this feature through Settings > Accounts > Windows Backup > Remember My Preferences > Accessibility. For now, the feature is only available for Microsoft accounts today, with AAD support coming later.

[Settings]

Updated Settings >Apps>Launch to make it easier to get more information about listed apps.

Right-click on the Win32 application in Start, or search for the application, and select "Uninstall" which will now take you to settings to uninstall the application.

[WSL]

Improved the upgrade experience for the new Windows Subsystem for Linux Store app (mentioned in Build 25272), so now if you call wsl.exe, you will be prompted to install it.

Fixes

[General]

We fixed an underlying issue related to combase.dll that caused multiple applications using the GetKnownFolder API to crash after upgrading to Build 25290 , including Notepad and Windows Terminal IME users. This issue is also believed to be the root cause of some industry insiders finding that certain operations in File Explorer take several minutes to complete in these versions.

We fixed an issue that caused rendering issues and difficulty using the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE).

Fixed an issue where some users were having trouble authenticating corporate websites that required Windows Integrated Authentication.

[Taskbar and System Tray]

The ability to display seconds in the clock on the system tray was first introduced in Build 25247. If it disappeared after you updated to Build 25295 last week, it should be restored after updating to Build 25300.

Fixed an issue that caused the taskbar to be cut off after a resolution change.

We fixed an issue where window focus could be switched unexpectedly when hovering over an app icon on the taskbar.

[Gadgets]

The latest gadget update in the Dev Channel due to a fix for an issue that caused third-party gadgets to be unpinned when logged in with a Microsoft account on multiple Windows 11 devices Third-party gadgets will be unpinned. Insiders will need to go back to their gadget boards and re-pin these gadgets. If you're still seeing issues with gadgets being accidentally unpinned - please leave feedback.

Currently, the "Find more gadgets" link in the gadget picker no longer breaks and will point to the store collection here.

[Input]

We are starting to fix an issue where the IME candidate window and IME toolbar sometimes don't display or get cropped.

[File Explorer]

Dragging and dropping files and folders between tabs should work again.

[Task Manager]

Process names entered into the search box should no longer accidentally be spell-checked.

Fixed several issues with how Narrator reads content in Task Manager.

Fixed an issue where the drop-down menu in settings might not match your currently selected theme.

When using search on the app history page, results should no longer suddenly disappear.

If you have the default start page drop-down menu open in Settings, clicking on the Task Manager window should now make the drop-down menu disappear.

It should now be possible to drag the window using the search box area (just like other areas of the title bar).

Fixed an issue where the confirmation dialog was not shown when ending a process in the details tab.

Increasing the text zoom should no longer result in a "See more" button with no content.

If you do a search and then press the down arrow, keyboard focus should now move from the search box to the results.

If you have the contrast theme enabled and select one of the rows in the process page, the row should now show that it is selected.

Fixed an issue where focus might not be set to search correctly, causing the narrator to not say focus was on the search box.

[Other]

Fixed an issue where Narrator's focus was not returned correctly to the Quick Settings window when using the back button in the Actors page.

Note: Some of the fixes mentioned here from the Insider Preview builds from the Development Channel may make their way into servicing updates for Windows 11 release builds.

Known Issues

[General]

We are investigating an issue where some users are experiencing longer than expected update times when installing recent builds. If you encounter this issue, please submit a new feedback item with a log in the Feedback Center.

Some AAD (Azure Active Directory) users now see a "Ready for you" screen when logging into Windows after updating to the latest version. We are investigating this issue.

Launching Group Policy Editor may display an error about the displayName property not being found.

Using Windows Hello for facial recognition login may not work on Arm64 computers. The workaround for this is to use the Hello PIN path.

We are investigating reports that the Windows Insider Program settings page shows newer builds available in Windows Update, even though they are the latest available builds in the Dev Channel.

We are investigating reports that the New button in the Snipping Tool is not working for some Insiders after upgrading to Build 25295. If you are affected by this, go into Settings > Applications > Default Applications and set screen clipping to the default for ms-screenclip and it should fix the issue.

[Gadgets]

We are investigating an issue where, in some cases, third-party gadgets may not load as expected.

[Taskbar and System Tray]

App icons on the taskbar may appear on the wrong monitor for some Insiders with multiple monitors.

[Windows Spotlight]

The following known issues only apply to Windows Insiders who received one of the different treatments for Windows Spotlight, which is rolled out to Insiders starting in Build 25281.

Clicking on the second monitor will not cancel the full-screen experience.

[Live Subtitles]

On Arm64 devices, enhanced speech recognition support will incorrectly install via the Language and Region settings page. Arm64 users who do not support speech recognition can use this workaround: (1) Uninstall all "Voice Pack-" application entries in "Settings" > "Applications" > "Installed Applications"; (2) Temporarily set the first language in its preferred language list as an acceptable alternative language in "Settings" > "Time & Language" > "Language & Region"; (3) Activate real-time subtitles.

Real-time subtitles for Chinese Traditional are currently unavailable on Arm64 devices.

Some languages shown on the Language and Region Settings page will appear to support speech recognition (for example, Korean), but do not yet support live subtitles.

When adding languages through the Language and Region Settings page, the installation progress of language features may be hidden, and you may not see the installation of Enhanced Speech Recognition (required for live subtitles) complete. . (You can monitor progress using your language's Language Options.) If this happens, there may be an unexpected delay before the Live Captioning experience detects this and lets you continue.

The Language and Region Settings page may not provide necessary speech recognition language support for live subtitles within an hour of first logging in.

Subtitle performance in non-English languages may be degraded and out-of-language filtering is missing in non-English (US) languages, meaning incorrect subtitles will be displayed for speech that is not in the subtitle language.
