Microsoft Win11 launches the first Canary preview version 25314, with updates and upgrade methods
Microsoft today released Windows 11 preview Build 25314 to the Canary channel.
Windows Insiders who were previously using 25000 series builds in the Dev channel are being moved to the new Canary channel. This migration continues in the background, but if users are on Build 25309 and haven't moved to the Canary Channel yet, they can wait for the move or move to the Canary Channel themselves via Settings > Windows Update > Windows Insider Program. And start receiving Build 25314. If you want to return to the Dev channel, you can perform a clean installation of Windows 11 and then rejoin the Dev channel to receive the 23000 series builds in the channel.
We remind that because the versions released to the Canary channel are "latest", Microsoft will provide limited documentation (for example, no known issue notes) and will not release specific content for each version - New features will only be stated as they become available.
New features in Windows 11 Build 25314
Access keys in File Explorer
Microsoft is adding access key shortcuts to the XAML context of File Explorer in the menu. An access key is a single-key shortcut that allows keyboard users to quickly execute commands in a context menu. Each access key will correspond to a letter in the display name. To try the feature, users can click on a file in File Explorer and press the menu key on their keyboard.
Note: If you see the "pizza" icon on the command bar of File Explorer, it means that the user is previewing the Windows App SDK version of File Explorer and will You won't see this feature.
[Microsoft is starting to roll out this feature, so this experience is not yet available to all Insiders in the Canary channel, and Microsoft is monitoring feedback and seeing how it works. ]
File Recommendations in File Explorer
File Recommendations (File Recommendations) will soon appear on the File Explorer homepage, allowing users to have the most relevant file content at their fingertips. This feature will be available to users who log into Windows using an Azure Active Directory (AAD) account (as shown in the image below). Recommended files will be cloud files associated with the account and either owned by or shared with the user.

Introduced LSA protection when upgrading Enable
Local Security Authentication (LSA) protection helps prevent unauthorized code from running in the LSA process and prevents process memory dumps. Login secrets and credentials were stolen. Starting with an upgrade, Microsoft will audit for a period of time to check for incompatibilities with LSA protection. If no incompatibilities are detected, LSA protection is automatically turned on. Users can check and change the enabled status of LSA protection in the Windows Security application under Device Security > Kernel Isolation page.
Narrator Outlook Support
Narrator will now retrieve updates to its Outlook support when Narrator is launched. Microsoft has not yet added any additional features to Outlook support, but this work will allow updates to the Outlook experience through the Microsoft Store. Once the download is complete, the user will receive a notification that the update has been obtained. With this change, Narrator's Outlook support is limited to US-English. Future versions will support other languages.
Changes and Improvements
[General]
In order to improve the security of Windows 11, starting from this version, Microsoft will disable the Remote Mailslot protocol by default. The Legacy Remote Mailslot Protocol is a simple, unreliable, insecure, and one-way inter-process communication protocol between clients and servers that was introduced in Windows NT 3.1 and will be deprecated in a future version of Windows. If an application attempts to open a remote mailslot session over the SMB protocol, the user may see one or more of the following errors:
3025 ERROR_REMOTE_MAILSLOTS_DEPRECATED
“The requested operation failed. Remote mailslots have been deprecated ." (The requested operation failed. The remote mailslot has been deprecated.)
If the user's application still uses the remote mailslot, please contact the vendor to update their software. The legacy remote mailslot is not secure and should not continue to be used under any circumstances. If a user needs to temporarily enable a remote mailslot, run the following command in an elevated PowerShell console:
PSC:\>Set-SmbClientConfiguration-EnableMailslots$true
About the Canary Channel
The Canary Channel is a new program for previewing changes to the Windows platform that require a longer lead time before being released to customers. Some examples of this include breaking changes to the Windows kernel, new APIs, and more. Builds that Microsoft releases to the Canary Channel are not considered to match any specific Windows version. Some changes attempted in the Canary Channel may never be released, and others may appear in future Windows versions when they are ready. .
Canary channel releases are updated quickly, which means little verification and documentation will be done before they are made available to Insiders. These versions may contain significant issues that may prevent you from using your PC properly or even require you to reinstall Windows in rare cases.
The Microsoft Canary Channel will not receive daily builds; however, Microsoft may release builds more frequently in the future. The desktop watermark users see in the lower right corner of the desktop is normal for these preview releases.
