Microsoft pushed cumulative updates for Win10 and Win11 systems during last week’s Patch Tuesday event day. Win11 users reported that this month’s update had problems such as installation failures and slowed down SSD transfer speeds. Now Win10 users have also reported that there are many problems, including installation failures, blue screens, etc.
Microsoft released the KB5023696 cumulative update for Win10 Version 22H2 and other feature updates. Users reported that performance degradation, blue screens and other issues occurred after installing the update.
One of the users reported that this update resulted in increased device load, overheating of the device, and increased fan speed causing noise and other issues. The user contacted Microsoft and Dell support but never heard back.
The user left a message on Feedback Hub:
I am not running any intensive tasks, but the fan is still running at full power after a few minutes. After uninstalling the update, the fan operation returns to normal.
I am using a Dell 5490 all-in-one PC with Win10 22H2 installed, I have contacted Dell and Microsoft about this but they have not yet provided any response as to the cause/solution.
Another user left a message:
Everything went well during the installation of KB5023696, but a blue screen failure occurred shortly after entering the home screen. The Win10 system will automatically restart and look normal again.
KB5023696 is listed as successfully installed under Quality Updates, but it is not in the list of uninstall updates.
Visited the Feedback Hub, Reddit and Microsoft Answer forums and found that errors such as 0x800f081f, 0x800f0984, 0x800f0922, etc. will appear when installing KB5023696.
