Sources say Samsung hopes to indirectly control LG Display's Guangzhou factory through CSOT

According to a report from Dealsite, Samsung is working to indirectly acquire LG Display’s LCD factory in Guangzhou through Huaxing Optoelectronics. According to reports, the Korean company currently holds a 10.38% stake in CSOT. It is said that BOE also seems to be trying to acquire the LG Display Guangzhou factory, which is one of the reasons why Samsung hopes to control the LGD Guangzhou factory.

According to reports, South Korea’s LG Display and Chinese home appliance company Skyworth have reached an agreement Negotiations for the sale of the Guangzhou LCD factory lasted for six months but ultimately failed. Sources pointed out that the two companies failed to reach an agreement on funding, mainly because Skyworth failed to meet LG Display’s one-time payment requirements, and the value of the factory can reach 1 trillion won (approximately 5.52 billion yuan)

According to people familiar with the matter, after the failure of Skyworth negotiations, China Star Optoelectronics and BOE expressed a positive attitude toward the acquisition. The market expects that due to the close cooperative relationship between China Star Optoelectronics and Samsung, Samsung Electronics will fully support this acquisition

Since Samsung Display has already withdrawn from the LCD business, the current Korean LCD market is basically completely dominated by Chinese manufacturers, so even if Even Samsung Electronics also needs to purchase from Chinese manufacturers such as BOE.

From Samsung Electronics’ perspective, if CSOT can acquire LG Display’s Guangzhou factory, they will be able to better negotiate with other manufacturers on price and quality.

According to public information, the production line of LGD Guangzhou factory is divided into two parts, GP1 and GP2, with a total production capacity of 300,000 pieces, of which GP1 has a production capacity of 100,000 pieces and GP2 has a production capacity of 200,000 pieces. At present, the main customers of LGD Guangzhou factory include Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, Sony and other large global enterprises.
