Have you been given specific tasks in this new role?

As the chief data and AI officer for the Air Force department, I have been given a clear mandate to prepare the department for AI while becoming this leader in this aspect. The U.S. Air Force has set ambitious goals to be AI-ready by 2025 and have an AI-enhanced competitive advantage by 2027 to gain strategic advantage in national security.

During this process, my team and I are committed to achieving the following goals:

Develop an AI strategy that is consistent with the U.S. Air Force’s digital transformation efforts and contributes to the National Defense Strategy.
  • Establish a strong data governance framework to ensure ethical and responsible use of AI-powered technologies.
  • Build a robust AI workforce of data scientists, engineers and other experts who can design, develop and deploy AI applications across the Air Force.
  • Identify key use cases and scenarios that could benefit from AI applications, and develop and implement AI solutions to address these areas.
  • Build partnerships with other government agencies, academic institutions, and industry partners to promote innovation and cooperation in AI R&D.
  • Overall, the tasks given to me and my team were clear and important, requiring focused and dedicated efforts to achieve the desired results. We recognize that AI readiness and competitiveness are critical to maintaining the U.S. Air Force’s edge in the modern combat domain, and we are committed to our mission to achieve these goals.

What in your background makes you a good fit for this role?

For the past three-plus years, I have served as the chief data officer for this department, at the forefront of data management and analytics. In more than 80 successful projects, significant synergies have been created between data and AI. I believe my experience and expertise make me a perfect fit for the role of Chief Data and AI Officer (CDAO) for the U.S. Air Force It has been endorsed by multiple organizations, including the Defense Intelligence Agency, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, and the Office of the Secretary of Defense. Throughout my career, I have proven my ability to understand complex technical concepts and communicate them in a way that all stakeholders can understand and understand.

As a CDAO, I manage complex data systems and deliver actionable insights to inform business decisions. This experience has made me keenly aware of areas for improvement and willing to take bold actions to improve them. Drive change.
