IT House reported on July 11 that Meta Company has launched a new developer feature called “Quest Super Resolution”, which aims to improve the quality of VR applications and games on the Quest headset. Picture quality.
According to IT House, Quest Super Resolution utilizes Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Game Super Resolution (GSR) software technology. The principle of GSR is similar to AMD’s FSR 1.0, but it is specifically designed for the Adreno mobile GPU in Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chipset. Optimized and only requires one treatment to achieve the best results. Although it is not an AI system like NVIDIA's DLSS, it is better than traditional sharpening technology. According to Meta, although future chipset support may be necessary, they are actively conducting research on related technologies.

Quest Super Resolution will be available in the upcoming v55 Unity Integration SDK. Unity developers will see a new "Sharpening Type" setting in v55, with two options: Normal and Quality. Quality uses Super Resolution technology, but it will consume obvious GPU performance, while Normal uses Contrast Adaptive Sharpening (CAS), which is closer to traditional sharpening technology. Meta claims that Quality (Super Resolution) "avoids blurring and stair-stepping effects caused by bilinear sampling and provides smoother edge reconstruction and reduced halo effects" compared to Normal sharpening.
Super Resolution’s GPU performance footprint is content-related according to Meta. In applications with simple colors and smooth gradients, there will be relatively low GPU performance usage. In applications with rich textures and object details, there will be higher GPU performance usage.
