DoNews reported on June 2 that food delivery giants Uber Eats and Serve Robotics recently officially announced that starting in 2026, they will launch robot food delivery services in major cities in the United States.
According to IT House citing foreign media reports, Serve Robotics stated that this robot equipped with 4 wheels uses AI technology for path planning. It has a range of approximately 40 kilometers and can carry goods weighing up to 23 kilograms. In addition, the company’s robots can deliver dozens of orders every day.
Uber said that when consumers order through Uber Eats, they will be offered the option of having their meals delivered by robots. In order to ensure that customers' food can be delivered safely, the robot will deliver the meal to the designated location and then require the customer to enter a password to pick up the meal.
Currently, Uber and Serve Robotics have begun testing robot food delivery services in California. Uber plans to become a zero-carbon emission food delivery platform by 2040, and will use robot food delivery as an important part of it.
Serve Robotics is an independent spin-off from Uber's business. It was formerly the food delivery robot project of Postmates, a food delivery service. In March 2022, it received an investment of US$10 million (approximately 71 million yuan) from Nvidia.
Serve Robotics started its robot delivery business in 2022, and its monthly delivery volume has grown by more than 30%. Currently, more than 200 restaurants in the Los Angeles area are its users.
Uber said that its cooperation with Serve Robotics will be expanded to more cities in 2026, including San Jose, California, Dallas, Texas, and Vancouver, Canada, with up to 2,000 delivery robots planned to be deployed.
