According to the editor’s understanding, this report called “Global Automobile Manufacturer Ratings 2022” was compiled by the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT). Among the world's top 20 passenger car manufacturers, only Tesla and BYD are the leaders, according to data compiled by the institute. Meanwhile, 12 companies are classified as transitioners, with BMW and Volkswagen leading the way. Finally, the six laggards are made up of five Japanese brands and one Indian carmaker.
ICCT conducted rankings and ratings by analyzing the market share, technology and strategic vision of automakers. As the only brand that focuses on the production of electric vehicles and has not entered the field of fuel vehicles, Tesla shows an unquestionable future. BYD is rapidly transforming into a pure electric vehicle manufacturer and will officially announce the discontinuation of pure fuel vehicles in April 2022. According to data released by ICCT, there are more brands that support electrification than those that oppose it. Among them, Germany's BMW and Volkswagen have made more electrification efforts than other traditional competitors, while Chinese independent brand car companies such as Geely, SAIC, Great Wall, and Changan are also among the transformers.
