MediaTek announces the launch of 3nm automotive chips next year, leading a new trend in automotive technology
According to news on May 31, MediaTek recently announced plans to launch its first 3-nanometer automotive chip next year and plans to start mass production in 2025.
This 3-nanometer automotive chip is expected to be produced by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). Previous reports pointed out that MediaTek plans to launch products using TSMC’s 3nm chip process next year, and plans to adopt N3E solutions in December this year.
According to Jerry, Senior Vice President and General Manager of MediaTek CCM Department Yu said that MediaTek has been exploring the field of automotive chips for a long time and has accumulated rich experience and technical reserves. In the future, MediaTek will be committed to providing advanced solutions to automakers.
It is worth noting that on May 29, at Computex 2023 in Taipei, MediaTek CEO Cai Lixing and NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang announced a cooperation agreement. They will jointly develop automotive SoCs integrating Nvidia GPU chiplets. This cooperation will promote the connection between different chips and provide a comprehensive AI smart cockpit solution for software-defined cars.
Cai Lixing has previously stated that MediaTek will launch a product called “Dimensity Auto" automotive platform and will integrate NVIDIA's artificial intelligence (AI) and graphics processing unit (GPU) intellectual property. In addition, MediaTek and NVIDIA will jointly launch a comprehensive AI smart cockpit solution, pre-installed with NVIDIA's DriveOS, Drive Software technologies such as IX, CUDA and TensorRT.
MediaTek’s latest move shows that the company’s development in the field of automotive chips has attracted much attention. As the automotive industry's demand for intelligent and autonomous driving technologies continues to grow, MediaTek will play a key role in providing advanced solutions. In the future, we can expect to see more innovative in-vehicle technologies launched on the market.
