How to open a website in laravel

May 29, 2023 am 09:01 AM

Laravel is a popular PHP web development framework that provides a series of tools and functions that facilitate the development, maintenance, and expansion of web applications. As a developer, you may already be using Laravel to build your own applications, but you may not yet know how to publish those applications to the web. In this article, we will learn how to launch a website in the Laravel framework.

  1. Configure Web Server

Before publishing your Laravel application to a web server, you need to determine which web server you will use. Apache and Nginx are two popular web server choices, both of which are compatible with the Laravel framework. In this step, we will use Nginx as an example.

First, you need to install Nginx on your server. On Ubuntu systems, you can complete this step with the following command:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install nginx

After completing the installation, you need to configure Nginx to be compatible with the Laravel framework. You can use the following command to open the default Nginx configuration file:

sudo nano /etc/nginx/sites-available/default

Then, you need to add the following configuration information in the "server" block:

server_name yourdomain.com; # 替换成你的域名或IP地址
root /var/www/html/laravel/public; # 替换成你的Laravel项目公共文件夹路径
index index.php;

location / {
    try_files $uri $uri/ /index.php?$query_string;
}

location ~ .php$ {
    try_files $uri =404;
    fastcgi_split_path_info ^(.+.php)(/.+)$;
    fastcgi_pass unix:/var/run/php/php7.4-fpm.sock; # 替换成你的PHP版本和位置
    fastcgi_index index.php;
    include fastcgi_params;
}

After completing the above steps, you need to save and close the file. Then, you can test the Nginx configuration with the following command:

sudo nginx -t

If there are no errors, you can restart the Nginx service to take effect:

sudo systemctl restart nginx

Now, you have configured a Laravel-enabled Web server.

  1. Configuring Laravel

Before proceeding to the next step, you need to upload your Laravel application to the web server. You can use file transfer protocols such as FTP or SFTP to upload files.

After uploading your Laravel application, you need to go to the application directory and run the following commands to complete Laravel configuration:

composer install
cp .env.example .env    # 在这里更新你的数据库配置和APP_KEY
php artisan key:generate    # 更新APP_KEY
php artisan migrate    # 运行数据库迁移

These steps will install Laravel dependencies and configure environment variables file as well as generate APP_KEY and run database migrations.

  1. Testing

Now, you have uploaded the Laravel application to the web server and completed the relevant configuration. You can access your domain name or server IP address through a browser, and if your configuration is correct, you should be able to see the Laravel welcome page.

If you see an error message, you can check the error logs of the web server and Laravel application for more information.

In this article, we learn how to open a website in the Laravel framework by using Nginx as an example. By understanding these configuration steps, you should be able to publish your Laravel application to a web server and run it in a production environment.
