HomeWeb Front-endFront-end Q&Ajquery full screen scrolling without plugins

With the continuous development of Web technology, more and more websites use full-screen scrolling effects, allowing users to browse multiple content areas within one page. There are many ways to achieve this effect, among which the more commonly used one is to use jQuery plug-in. But what I want to introduce today is how to achieve full-screen scrolling without using jQuery plug-in.

  1. HTML structure

We first need to determine the HTML structure of our website. In this example, we will use an image as the background of the first screen, and the second screen will display a text. Therefore, our HTML structure should be:

<body>
  <div class="section section-1">
    <div class="bg-img"></div>
  </div>
  <div class="section section-2">
    <div class="text"></div>
  </div>
</body>

It can be seen that we divide the entire page into two parts, each part is a section, and the background of the first screen is a window with .bg- div of class img, while the second screen contains a div with class .text.

  1. CSS Styles

Next, we need to add styles to our page. We need to set the height of the page to the height of the browser window and set the height of each section to 100%. At the same time, we need to set the position of all sections to absolute positioning so that we can scroll the page later.

html,
body {
  height: 100%;
  margin: 0;
  padding: 0;
}

.section {
  height: 100%;
  position: absolute;
  top: 0;
  left: 0;
  width: 100%;
}

.section-1 {
  background-color: #f9f9f9;
}

.bg-img {
  background-image: url('https://picsum.photos/1920/1080');
  background-size: cover;
  background-position: center;
  height: 100%;
}

.section-2 {
  background-color: #fff;
}
  1. JavaScript code

Now we need to add JavaScript code to our website to achieve page scrolling. We can use the mouse wheel or the keyboard up and down arrows to scroll the page.

var sectionIndex = 0;
var sections = $('.section');
var totalSections = sections.length;

$(document).on('mousewheel DOMMouseScroll', function (e) {
  if (e.originalEvent.wheelDelta > 0 || e.originalEvent.detail < 0) {
    //向上滚动
    sectionIndex--;
  } else {
    //向下滚动
    sectionIndex++;
  }
  if (sectionIndex < 0) {
    sectionIndex = 0;
  }
  if (sectionIndex > totalSections - 1) {
    sectionIndex = totalSections - 1;
  }
  scrollToSection(sectionIndex);
});

$(document).keydown(function (e) {
  switch (e.which) {
    case 38: //向上箭头
      sectionIndex--;
      break;
    case 40: //向下箭头
      sectionIndex++;
      break;
    default:
      return;
  }
  if (sectionIndex < 0) {
    sectionIndex = 0;
  }
  if (sectionIndex > totalSections - 1) {
    sectionIndex = totalSections - 1;
  }
  scrollToSection(sectionIndex);
});

function scrollToSection(sectionIndex) {
  $('html, body').animate({
    scrollTop: sections.eq(sectionIndex).offset().top
  }, 500);
}

We define a sectionIndex variable to record the current screen position for subsequent scrolling. We also define a sections variable to store all section elements, and a totalSections variable to record the number of sections.

Next, we add event listeners for the mouse wheel and keyboard up and down arrows. When the user performs a scrolling operation, we will increase or decrease sectionIndex, and check whether the value of sectionIndex exceeds the total number of screens to Make sure the screen we're on is legal. Finally, we call the scrollToSection function to jump to the target screen.

scrollToSection function uses jQuery's animate method to smoothly scroll to the position of the specified section. We can also modify the scroll time if needed.

  1. Result Display

Finally, we have successfully implemented a full-screen scrolling effect that does not require the use of jQuery plug-ins. The effect is as follows:

  1. Summary

In this article, we introduced how to use pure JavaScript and jQuery to achieve a full-screen scrolling effect, The implementation effect is also demonstrated. Although the jQuery plug-in can make the implementation simpler, using native JavaScript allows us to better understand the working principles and logic behind the code, and also allows us to customize the scrolling effect more flexibly.

HTML and React's Integration: A Practical GuideHTML and React's Integration: A Practical GuideApr 21, 2025 am 12:16 AM

HTML and React can be seamlessly integrated through JSX to build an efficient user interface. 1) Embed HTML elements using JSX, 2) Optimize rendering performance using virtual DOM, 3) Manage and render HTML structures through componentization. This integration method is not only intuitive, but also improves application performance.

React efficiently renders data through state and props, and handles user events through the synthesis event system. 1) Use useState to manage state, such as the counter example. 2) Event processing is implemented by adding functions in JSX, such as button clicks. 3) The key attribute is required to render the list, such as the TodoList component. 4) For form processing, useState and e.preventDefault(), such as Form components.
