注意 Windows 11 KB5014019 更新中的新问题

Trend Micro’s third-party antivirus software failed to fully complete virus scans, apparently due to some kind of bug in Windows 11 KB5014019. Trend Micro claims that issues with its antivirus protection tool are related to the User Mode Hook (UMH) it uses, although the exact cause is unclear.

KB5014019 is an optional update and does not come with security features. The C update is an optional update designated by Microsoft that is typically released on the third or fourth week of each month, and may be something to be aware of for those unfamiliar with the matter.

Optional updates are clearly marked as "Preview" on Windows Update, and they are used to test non-security fixes, improvements, and even new features. In this case, KB5014019 actually comes with several new features, including support for Windows Spotlight on the desktop, which was supposed to debut in the 22H2 release.

Microsoft has previously warned that optional updates should not be distributed to all client systems. Instead, the optional option gives users a chance to grab non-security fixes that the company plans to release on Patch Tuesday next month.

Issues in KB5014019 for Windows 11

As mentioned at the outset, Trend Micro says it is aware of an issue where updates may break features such as ransomware protection.

Usage of the UH component is affected by a bug in KB5014019 that affects multiple Trend Micro endpoint and server protection products. An advanced ransomware used it as a protective measure, but the driver stopped working once an optional preview update was installed.

"[Users who apply the patch] and then reboot will find that the Trend Micro UMH driver will stop," the company said.

The company is working to fix bugs that cause its ransomware protection and other features to break and will release fixes ahead of the June 2022 Patch Tuesday update.

Installation issues with latest Windows 11 optional updates

On Reddit and Feedback Hub, users have flagged another issue where optional updates will fail to install with a vague error message.

"After a few days of receiving the message "2022-05 Windows 11 Cumulative Update for x64-based Systems (KB5014019) is available" I gave OK but the system always replied "This cannot be installed Update, but you can try again (0x800f081f). Update KB5013943 was recently added with the same results. I repeat this procedure several times a day,” noted one affected user.

Additionally, it appears that a bug affecting .NET Framework applications is not fully fixed in the patch, and it may break the functionality of some applications such as SteelSeries GG.
