Two reports emerged last week suggesting that Apple was developing some kind of foldable MacBook display. Designer Antonio De Rosa created a set of renderings and a video showing his thoughts on what such a device would look like.
Both reports come from reliable sources, so it's clear Apple is at least toying with the idea, although the exact nature of any final product isn't entirely clear...
Display Analyst Ross Young noted that this appears to be a MacBook with a virtual keyboard that unfolds into a larger display when used with an external keyboard.
Now we have Apple on the roadmap for foldable laptops. We've heard interest in the largest size currently available, which is around 20. It can be used as a monitor and used with an external keyboard.
Mark Gurman of Bloomberg agrees with the idea, but suggested it could be a hybrid MacBook/iPad.
I'm told that Apple has indeed been exploring a dual-screen, foldable MacBook/iPad hybrid device that would take the second approach. It would trade a physical keyboard and trackpad for a full touchscreen base.De Rosa's shot has a physical trackpad with a virtual keyboard. In folded form, it doesn't look much different than today's MacBooks, but with a wider aspect ratio.
