苹果新授予的专利可以使无缺口的 iPhone 成为现实

Smartphone-making companies have successfully extended phones' displays to the edges, but there's still one challenging area where not everyone has been successful - hiding the front-facing camera. While Android OEMs have had teardrop notches and punch-hole displays for years, the notch on iPhones has remained the same thanks to the use of camera hardware. However, thanks to Apple's just-received patent, it looks like we might finally be seeing a flawless notch-less iPhone.

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has officially granted Apple a patent that eliminates the iPhone’s notch and relocates the TrueDepth camera system behind the phone’s display, according to Patent Apple’s findings. We've already seen something similar with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3.

The image below shows the difference between the current iPhone camera notch and how it will be hidden in future designs.

Illustration. Figure 4 above illustrates a future environment where the camera could also be hidden under the screen in the middle of the display. Apple notes that "While the #420 camera does not necessarily make contact with the #410 display, the camera is closer to the back (#418) of the display than to the #417 front surface."
