Apple’s new 5K Studio Display supports the 11-inch iPad Pro, 12.9-inch iPad Pro (3rd generation or later) and the new fifth-generation iPad Air, but is not officially compatible with the fourth-generation iPad Air or new iPads mini because the USB-C ports on these devices cannot achieve the data throughput required to output at native resolution.

This has some users wondering what happens, if anything, when a fourth-generation iPad Air or iPad mini 6 is connected to a Studio Display. Apple has now confirmed to MacRumors that both devices output at scaled-down 1440p resolution to 5K-capable displays. Arguably, other older iPads with USB-C that aren't supported won't be able to drive the Studio Display at 5K either.

Customers can now order through Apple’s online store Studio Display will be available starting March 18, but the delivery date of the new Mac Studio and its accompanying Studio Display has begun to be pushed back to April.

In the U.S., the Studio Display sells for $1,599 with an adjustable tilt stand or $1,999 with an adjustable tilt and height stand. The monitor can also be configured with nano-textured glass and/or a VESA mounting adapter.
