You can now easily copy or rip music from a disc to your computer using Windows 11’s new media player. For those unfamiliar, Windows Media Player was recently updated with a WinUI and Fluent Design makeover on Windows 11, and now it's getting support for features available in the original version.
The new media player is obviously built on top of Groove Music, and it supports better video playback, a large library, and a modern design that matches the look and feel of Windows 11.
The latest update to Windows Media Player adds support for CD playback. Microsoft has also made improvements to the media player's themes and styles, and implemented additional changes to ensure a smooth drag-and-drop experience for media content.
With today's update, it's now easy to copy music to your desktop. If you have a CD ready to be copied, Media Player will do the work for you. As you can see in the screenshot below, you can choose a format like AAC and change the bitrate before copying the file to your device.
Other supported formats include WMA, FLAC and ALAC.
Remember that Windows Media Player automatically selects the best format and bitrate based on the file type you select. For example, 256 kbps is selected when you try to copy an audio file.
To get started, insert the CD into your CD-ROM drive. If the AutoPlay option appears on the desktop, you can ignore it and open Windows Media Player. Finally, go to the Audio CD section and select Rip CD to let the application rip the CD using the default settings, or you can change the settings.
This update will be rolled out to testers in the development channel and will be available to everyone later this month.
The built-in Windows Camera app has been updated with a new beautiful look for Windows 11. The app now uses familiar WinUI and Fluent Design, and the fonts have been updated.
The camera app still supports features such as video, photo, document and whiteboard capture, and now supports two additional capture modes - QR code and barcode scanning. You will be able to scan QR codes or barcodes using the camera app. Of course, this feature works best on devices with high-quality cameras.
In addition to the app update, Microsoft also released Windows 11 Build 25158 in the Dev Channel, which contains widgets and taskbar improvements.
