Microsoft has created a new Azure Spring Cloud layer, Enterprise, as a response to those looking for modern capabilities to accelerate their Spring modernization projects. Now available for preview, it offers all the perfect features to attract all kinds of customers.
Azure Spring Cloud Enterprise might just be the key to improving Spring’s capabilities. It has all the basic features available in the standard layer and commercially supported Spring runtime components to provide better shipping processes and higher productivity to enterprise customers. Here are the key points you should know:
It uses open source Cloud Native Buildpacks and commercial VMware Tanzu Buildpacks to automate enterprise-scale management and container creation. Additionally, the manageable Tanzu build service in Azure Spring Cloud Enterprise provides a higher level of abstraction for application building. In addition to building Spring applications and multilingual applications, you can also choose which Buildpacks to use. Combined with application performance monitoring agent configuration, Tanzu Buildpacks make it easier to build Python, NodeJS, Go, Spring, Java and .NET Core applications.
Tanzu's Spring Cloud GatewayDirects client requests to applications in Azure Spring Cloud, Azure and/or on-premises. Together with VMware Tanzu's API Portal, it will effectively let you view and manage request routing and APIs. It also addresses cross-domain considerations for applications behind the gateway, including routing, caching, monitoring, protection, resiliency, rate limiting, and hidden applications. Additionally, applications can be configured with dynamic routing rules without redeploying the application, request throttling without any supporting services, and single sign-on integration with your preferred identity provider without any additional code.
It allows you to manage VMware Tanzu components on Azure, and you can select which components to apply when creating an enterprise instance. These components will also enable customers to extend enterprise-grade application portfolios, promote and move Spring applications in Azure Spring Cloud, deploy multilingual applications and Spring Cloud middleware components, and control build dependencies. Additionally, Microsoft and VMware promise to include more enterprise-grade features over time.
Access to Spring experts will allow users to optimize the Spring ecosystem and enjoy faster application deployment and development. This stems from the VMware Spring Runtime Support provided. What's more, Spring project minor releases receive minimum commercial support for 24 months from the date of initial release through the VMware Spring Runtime Support entitlement.
Because the enterprise tier runs on Azure in a fully managed environment, it's familiar and still offers the same benefits that the Azure and Java ecosystems offer.
