Apple announced the integration of Apple Business Essentials with Google Workspace. Now, the Cupertino company has provided new details on how the Google Workspace integration will work in Apple Business Manager.

Announced last November, Apple Business Essentials is a subscription service for U.S. small businesses. The service combines device management, Apple's 24/7 support, iCloud storage, and even AppleCare. Basically, it's an easier way to streamline enterprise workflows across all Apple devices.

Employees simply sign in to their work accounts on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac using a Managed Apple ID. Once signed in, they'll have access to everything they need to be productive, including the new Apple Business Essentials app, where they can download available work apps.

For organizations without a dedicated IT department, Google Workspace integration will make cloud identity management simpler. This process used to be tedious, but the integration is designed to make things easier.

Managed Apple IDs can be created through federation with Microsoft Azure Active Directory and, later this spring, Google Workspace Identity Service, allowing employees to log in to their devices using a single enterprise username and password. Apple Business Essentials works with company-provided and personally-owned devices, and with Apple's user registration feature, employees' personal information remains private and encryptedly separated from work data

How Configuring the authentication process

The administrator or HR manager first needs to log in to Apple Business Manager. Click the account holder's name, Preferences, and then click Account. Next to Federation, click Edit, then Google Workspace, then Connect. You'll then "Sign in with Google" by entering your Google Workspace admin information - click Done when you're ready to configure it.

How to turn on federation

You need to enable federation before syncing with Google Workspace. Sign in as an administrator or people manager and click the account holder's name. Click on Preferences, Accounts, then Edit (in the Domains section). Turn on federation for each domain that is successfully added to your organization's Apple Business Manager.
