Microsoft releases a new Xbox app for Windows with redesigned navigation

Microsoft today pushed a preview of an update to the Xbox app for Windows 10 and 11. If you're in the Xbox Insider program, which is separate from the Windows Insider program, you can download the latest version with redesigned navigation.

Version 2203.1000.21.0 changes how navigation works in the Xbox app. It brings a new non-collapsible sidebar with five main sections: Game Pass, My Library, Cloud Games, Community, and Store. The current stable version of the Xbox app for Windows keeps these sections at the top of the window next to the search button.

#Underneath the main section, you'll find a list of installed games and another button to access Game Pass. The latter lets you browse all the games available in Game Pass for PC.

Another change is that the search field is now permanent. It no longer collapses into a small button that lets you search for games on any screen within the app. Finally, Microsoft is moving profile and notification icons from right to left. You can click on your profile name to display the main menu with settings, support, feedback, and more.

If you want to test an earlier version of the Xbox app on Windows, download the Xbox Insider Hub from the Microsoft Store. Keep in mind that joining the beta program will cause all of your Windows devices to download a preview version of the Xbox app, even on stable versions of Windows 10 and 11.
