Intel, AMD, and Nvidia release driver updates for Windows 11, Windows 10 in May 2022

Hardware companies Intel, AMD, and Nvidia have released new display drivers for Windows 11 and Windows 10 with a long list of improvements and fixes. While GeForce 512.77 is actually a minor release with a few fixes, Intel's updated drivers fixed several issues and AMD added support for the new card.

Intel graphics driver version 30.0.101.1960 adds support for Alder Lake HX, a new chip for laptops. Additionally, Intel is promising better compatibility with two new games: Evil Dead: The Game and Dolmen, powered by Intel's 11th generation processors and Xr graphics and newer.

According to the release notes, Intel has fixed an issue where Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (DX12) may experience a crash or pop-up error message. A bug where Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition could experience graphical glitches in the game menu or during gameplay has been resolved.

Intel says it has also fixed several issues with Elden Ring, including a bug where users might experience textures flashing green or red.

Fixes and improvements in Intel 30.0.101.1960 driver

The following is a list of all bug fixes in Intel 30.0.101.1960:

  • Fixed for Genshin Impact Issues with texture flickering or glitches may occur.
  • Fixed an issue causing FIFA 21 to crash.
  • Fixed an issue where it could crash or encounter a TDR.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause the app to crash in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege.

Intel has also confirmed an issue where some games may cause a black screen if you change the resolution in-game. This has been fixed in the May 2022 update, and Intel adds that the bug only affects DirectX11 games in full-screen mode with the full-screen optimization option disabled.

Intel typically provides fixes to users via Windows Update, but rollouts often take months because it's entirely up to the OEM. If you can't wait, you can use Intel's Driver and Support Assistant tool to force upgrade your device to new drivers from the chipmaker.

To manually install the update, use the following steps:

  • Download the Intel Driver and Support Assistant (iDSA) tool from the Intel website.
  • Open the update assistant tool.
  • Can’t find the tool? Look for the Intel icon in the system tray.
  • Check the Intel website for updates.

New features in AMD Adrenalin 22.5.1 driver

AMD’s driver version 22.5.1 adds support for new GPU cards, including Radeon RX 6650 XT, RX 6750 XT and RX 6950 XT. AMD has also fixed an issue where transparency or aerospace effects would not work on Windows 10.

According to the release notes, there are a lot of new things to try. For example, AMD has introduced a new effects slider that lets you fine-tune the sharpness effect of RSR. AMD is also promising performance improvements through "intelligent access memory optimization" for Death Stranding™ and Watch Dogs: Legion.

This update can improve performance by up to 10% if you're using the new SAM optimizations in Death Stranding at 1440p.

New Features for Nvidia GeForce 512.77

Nvidia GeForce driver version 512.77 adds support for two games, Evil Dead: The Game and Dolmen and Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong. It also fixes a bug that caused Adobe Premiere Pro to crash.

To download and install, launch GeForce Experience, click the Drivers tab, and start the download when prompted.

Intel, AMD, and Nvidia also plan to release major driver updates ahead of the Windows 11 Anniversary Update, which will be available in the fall.
