Apple surprised everyone by announcing a self-service repair program. Through this program, customers who are comfortable performing their own repairs can receive original parts and tools. Apple has announced that self-service repair stores are now available in the United States and will gradually expand to more countries starting in Europe later this year.
The online store gives customers access to over 200 individual parts and tools. Customers can repair iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 series as well as iPhone SE 3rd generation. Customers can purchase parts and tools for the display, battery, camera, bottom speaker, SIM tray and Taptic Engine. The store will also add parts and tools for Apple silicon Macs later this year.
#To begin a repair, customers first need to review the repair manual for the product they want repaired. Afterwards, they can visit a do-it-yourself repair shop and order the necessary parts and tools. The store offers the same tools used by Apple's own repair network. Apple also offers a $49 Tool Rental Kit, giving customers who don’t want to purchase tools for a single repair access to high-quality repair tools like torque drivers, repair trays, display and battery presses, and more.
Apple says the number of service locations where genuine Apple parts, tools and training are available has nearly doubled over the past three years. The global network consists of more than 5,000 Apple Authorized Service Providers and more than 100,000 employed technicians. 8 out of 10 Apple customers in the United States are within 20 minutes of an authorized service provider.
The company also said, “Self-service repair is part of Apple’s efforts to further expand the scope of repairs. For the vast majority of customers who have no experience repairing electronic devices, access to professional repair providers and access to genuine Apple parts Certified technicians are the safest and most reliable way to make repairs."
