WithInternet Explorer set to be retired on June 15, 2022, the company has launched two more## for IE mode #Microsoft Edge enhancements to increase productivity. These improvements were introduced in direct response to customer feedback.

With support for IE coming to an end, IE mode built into Microsoft Edge has been promoted to help organizations make the transition. With IE mode, users can access traditional IE-based websites and applications while enjoying a more modern browsing experience. However, with less than three months until IE is retired, IE mode is still improving. These include restoring IE COM object calls and implementing bidirectional cookie sharing.

Restoring IE COM objects to their original functionality has been prioritized and is now being widely deployed. ECOM objects are an important part of many application and workflow functionality. These scenarios work as expected using IE or a combination of Microsoft Edge and IE mode. However, this breaks when the standalone IE browser is disabled. After

developers raised this issue, enhancements to IE mode were introduced and deployed. Therefore, the original functionality of the IE COM object has been restored for users of the latest Windows 11 and Windows 10 updates. This will continue to work even if the IE 11 desktop application is disabled.

Another big improvement in IE mode, especially for organizations on the modernization journey, is bidirectional cookie sharing between modern and legacy engines. IE mode in Microsoft Edge extends the use of legacy apps even after IE is retired. The ability to access legacy and modern sites in a single browser should aid organizations in their modernization efforts.

Previously, cookies in IE mode only allowed session information to be shared from sites using the modern engine to sites using the older engine. It does not allow reversal. This creates problems for organizations planning to modernize. Recognizing the importance of sharing correct data between sites in workflows involving modern and legacy sites, SSO scenarios for sharing credentials between sites and engines are unlocked. Users can now manually set cookies to share session information in both directions from the modern site to the old site and from the old site to the modern site.

Manual control over cookie sharing has been incorporated into the cloud site list management experience in the Microsoft 365 admin center. This allows users to identify specific sites within their cloud-hosted site to allow cookie sharing if necessary.
