FAQ for preemptible instances
About release
I am not in arrears, why was the instance released?
Preemptible instances will be passively released due to market price changes or supply and demand adjustments. If the market price at a certain time within an hour is higher than your bid, or the supply and demand of ECS resources changes, we will release your preemptible instance.
Will there be notification when the instance is released? How to notify?
There is a notification. When a preemptible instance is passively released due to market price changes or supply and demand adjustments, the instance will enter the Pending Recycling state and will be automatically released after about 5 minutes. You can use the instance metadata or the OperationLocks information returned by the API DescribeInstances to check whether the instance has entered the Pending Recycling state.
Can the data be automatically retained after the instance is released?
cannot. If you do not need to use a preemptible instance temporarily, it is recommended that you create a snapshot to back up your data and environment, then release the instance, and purchase it again when needed.
I have set the release time, can I cancel or adjust it?
able. Before a preemptible instance is released, you can cancel or adjust the release time at any time.
About prices and charges
Can a preemptible instance be converted to a yearly or monthly subscription instance?
cannot.
What resources are included in the price discount for preemptible instances?
Only the price of the instance type is discounted. The prices of other resources (including system disks, data disks, and network bandwidth) remain the same as those of pay-as-you-go instances, without discounts.
How to bid for a preemptible instance?
When you create a preemptible instance, you must set the maximum price you are willing to pay (in hours), and your instance will run when your bid is higher than the current market price. The final instance specification will be billed according to the market price.
What is the relationship between the maximum bid for a preemptible instance and the current market price?
Your preemptible instance can only run if your maximum bid is higher than the current market price. If your bid is lower than the market price, the preemptible instance will not run, or your running instance will be released. No matter how much you bid, preemptible instances are billed at the market price.
Are all preemptible instances launched at the same time charged the same fee?
Yes.
Within one hour after a preemptible instance runs, will the price I pay change with the market price?
Won't. The hourly unit price of a preemptible instance is set at the beginning of each instance's hour (naturally) and applies to the entire hour.
Can I see the current market price before purchasing a preemptible instance?
Can. When creating a preemptible instance through the console, after selecting the instance type, you can view the market price range and historical prices of the selected instance type. The cost of the current total configuration (i.e. instance type, storage, and network bandwidth) is displayed at the bottom of the creation page. Among them, the price of the instance type is the market price of the current instance type.
Can I view the historical price of preemptible instance specifications? How to check?
Can. When creating a preemptible instance through the console, after selecting the instance type, you can view the historical price of the selected instance type. You can also use the DescribeSpotPriceHistory interface to query historical prices.
Will the preemptible instance continue to be charged after it is stopped?
will continue to be charged. If you do not need to use a preemptible instance temporarily, it is recommended that you create a snapshot to back up your data and environment, then release the instance, and purchase it again when needed. Stop here refers to stopping the instance on the ECS console.
How to check the consumption details of preemptible instances?
You can view the preemptible instance bill in any of the following ways:
In the payment information section of the instance details page, click More> Query consumption details to enter the corresponding instance For consumption details, click Details to view the bill details.
Go to Expense Center > Consumption Records > Consumption Details, find the instance information you want to view, and click Details to view the bill details.
Note: Unlike the pay-as-you-go cloud server configuration charging amount, the cloud server configuration charging amount for preemptible instances is the actual transaction price.
About usage restrictions
How many preemptible instances can be purchased with one account?
The quota unit for preemptible instances is vCPU, not the number of instances. When creating a preemptible instance, you can view the available vCPU quota after selecting the instance type.
The quota of an account in a region is at least 50 vCPU, and will automatically increase as the user level increases. For more information, you can refer to Usage Limitations.
How to increase the vCPU quota?
Submit a work order. Different user membership levels have different upper limits on the number of vCPU cores that can be applied for. See Usage Restrictions for details.
Do preemptible instances support changing instance specifications?
not support.
Which ECS instance type families support preemptible instances?
The same specifications as the instance that supports pay-as-you-go sales. If certain instance types cannot be purchased due to tight supply and demand, please purchase other instance types.
Which regions support preemptible instances?
Currently, all regions support preemptible instances. If certain regions are unable to purchase due to resource constraints, please change to other applicable regions.
