1 PHP and ASP
ASP is not actually a language, it is just the abbreviation of Active Server Pages. The syntax used in ASP is actually the script version of Visual Basic. The biggest flaw is that ASP was born on Microsoft's Internet Information Server (IIS), causing it to only run on Win32 platform servers. There are some special features that allow ASP to run on other WEB server environments; such as the commercial version of InstantASP developed by Halcyon, the commercial version of Chili!Soft ASP developed by Chili!Soft, and the free OpenASP developed by ActiveScripting.org. ASP is slower and more cumbersome than PHP, and its stability is not as good. Because some professionals are familiar with Visual Basic, it is easier to deal with problems with VBScript's ASP. ASP is the built-in software of IIS, which is convenient to obtain and easy to run.
2 Is there a program to convert ASP to PHP?
Yes, asp2php is the most commonly used software.
3 PHP and Cold Fusion
For some new ideas or complex programs, PHP is generally considered to be the faster choice.
PHP is usually relatively stable and uses fewer resources. Cold Fusion has better error handling, abstract database and data analysis and processing capabilities than PHP4. In other respects, Cold Fusion has a powerful search engine, but other WEB functions are rarely mentioned. PHP supports almost all system platforms; Cold Fusion only supports Win32, Solaris, Linux and HP/UX.
Cold Fusion has a good IDE development environment and is relatively easy to use; PHP requires more programming experience.
There is a nice summary of this thread written by Michael J Sheldon in the PHP mail forum. Click here to see.
4 PHP and PERL
The biggest advantage of PHP over PERL is that PHP is a programming language designed specifically for WEB servers, while PERL has more complex functions in addition to being used on the WEB. In terms of flexibility/complexity, PERL started earlier and has more functions, which also makes it difficult for other authors and developers to read it. PHP has a simpler and more rigorous structure without losing flexibility. PHP integrates better with HTML syntax than PERL. No matter in terms of structure, syntax or other aspects, PHP has a small and beautiful structure compared to the full-featured PERL. PERL took a long time to become a real language, while PHP matured quickly.
