Journey to the Deku Tree

In a manner reminiscent of Breath of the Wild, the Master Sword remains a formidable weapon that you'll be eager to wield. Unlike other quests, this one lacks an objective marker, leaving us with only Mineru's cryptic advice to seek out the Deku Tree. Yet, we are determined to locate it.

Before delving too deeply into this quest, it's prudent to prepare adequately. You'll need to confront a Gloom Hand, those ominous pools of Gloom sprouting multiple eyeful arms. Equip yourself with ample arrows and Bomb Flowers, which are particularly effective against them, and ensure you have Gloom resistance, either through armor or specially prepared food.

If you've previously vanquished these Gloom Hands, you're likely familiar with Phantom Ganon. We've encountered him earlier in a group of five at Hyrule Castle, as per our guide. You should have a solid understanding of what to expect. Phantom Ganon employs three primary attacks, one of which has a variation. In his first attack, he charges at you, closing the distance no matter how far you are. Watch his sword as he approaches. If he lifts his arm, he's preparing a vertical slash, so lock onto him and dodge sideways. If his sword is positioned to the side, perform a backflip to evade the strike.

For his second attack, Phantom Ganon morphs into a small dark orb, swiftly moves to your position, and then reappears to slash at you. You can either flee from this attack or prepare to backflip. Finally, when he's stationary and you're close, he'll execute a spin attack akin to Link's.

Despite the significant damage he inflicts, I find the battle against Phantom Ganon less challenging than facing the Gloom Hands. You can also stun him by shooting him in the head, a tactic you should repeat to defeat him.

After the battle, witness the scene where we purify Korok Forest and the Great Deku Tree. Koroks will descend to express their gratitude. Use fast travel to return to the shrine at the top, ascend the roots, and converse with the Deku Tree.

Here, you'll experience a memory of retrieving the Master Sword, which was damaged during our battle with Calamity Ganon. Following this scene, a new main quest will emerge - Recovering the Hero's Sword.
