Assassin's Creed Shadows Way of the Blacksmith Walkthrough

Way of the Blacksmith is the 9th main quest in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the Way of the Blacksmith main mission.

• Quest Description: Tomiko wants her friend Heiji, who owes her a favor, to join the Hideout as blacksmith. He can be found in Sakai.

Talk to Heiji

Here the game introduces you to the Objectives board. AC Shadows has an Objective Board that displays all of the important characters in the game. This is where you find quests related to the story. These quests appear underneath the thumbnails for different characters.

For now, this tutorial only allows you to interact with one of the quests. Scroll to The League section of the map, identified with the Assassin’s symbol, and click on the quest marker underneath Tomiko. The game automatically backs you out of the menu.

Read the details in the upper left corner of the screen for clues about your target location: “He is in southwestern Izumi Settsu, he is in Sakai, he is east of the Port of Sakai”. They direct you to the area around Sakai, which sits on the coast directly southwest from the hideout. Scroll down to Sakai, press / to Scout for the objective, hover over Sakai, hold  /  to dispatch your scout. See the map below for the exact spot, if done correctly the blue quest marker will appear. This also unlocks  Scouting Mission (gather information using a scout). The information gathering phase is only available if you play with Guided Exploration = Off. If you have it turned on, then the objectives are marked automatically and you can’t use scouts.

For future reference, here are a couple of tips when working with your scouts:

• You can make a manual save before using a scout. If you send the scout to the wrong place, then just reload and retry.
• You can refill scouts in the first building “Kakurega” which you had to build at the hideout (costs money).

Now, make your way to Sakai.

When you reach the marker, you enter an Investigation Zone. Hold  /  to scan your surroundings. Your next destination is down the street to the southwest.

Continue down the street until you reach two guards standing next to a street light. Reminder: you can hold (Right Stick) while standing still to highlight enemies.

Head west into that alley. Use Eagle Vision to identify the four enemies behind the wall just south of you.

Climb through the gap in the fence and crouch in the tall grass.

The way these four enemies are situated, you can assassinate them without much issue or alarm. First take out the guy in front of you and then sneak up to the second one by the well and do the same.

For the next two, you need to be a bit faster. Take down the third one and then immediately go for the fourth. He pays better attention than the other three, so you don’t want him to sound the alarm.

Once they’re dispatched, speak to Heiji.

He offers up a dialogue choice:

• [You are brave.]
• [You seem sad.]

These options do not affect the outcome, so choose whichever you wish.

Build a forge

Now you need to go back to your hideout. Before that, though, take a swim out to the Nanbansen ship.

Climb to the top of the ship and activate the viewpoint. This not only helps find a couple nearby icons, but it also gives you a fast travel point for future use.

Now, fast travel to your hideout and use the workbench to craft a forge.

Press Square to build and select the forge. Place it anywhere in the hideout space, and then back out of the menu for a cutscene.

Scroll to the Assassin Order and select the quest “Way of the Blacksmith“.

This finishes Way of the Blacksmith in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
