DOOM: The Dark Ages' Physical Edition Still Requires 80 GB Download, Leaves Fans Furious
DOOM: The Dark Ages makes fans furious as the game disc only comes with 85 MB. Read on to learn more about how fans got the game earlier and its official launch trailer.
DOOM: The Dark Ages Shipped Early
Only 85MB Included in the Disc
Fans of DOOM: The Dark Ages are furious as the game disc includes only 85 MB. The game is set to be released on May 15, but some retailers have shipped the game earlier, even earlier than the premium edition’s 2-day early access.
However, many were shocked to discover they would need to download over 80 GB of data to play it. This is confirmed by Twitter (X) user @DoesItPlay1, who posted on May 9 the details of the game using their PS5. Based on their screenshots, the game disc has a file size of 85.01 MB and requires an internet connection to update to get the rest of the game, or even play it at all.
Fans are disappointed with how Bethesda handled their physical copies, stating that they don’t feel like they own a copy of the game. They mentioned that putting the game on a disc was a waste of resources, while others have decided to wait for its digital release. It’s safe to say that this move by Bethesda was an unpopular one, and fans have no choice but to download a hefty amount of data at launch.
An Amazing Game
Based on several Reddit posts, fans have gotten their hands on the game, and details about its story, UI, weapons, and more have gone out. Screenshots of the game have been posted, and many have mentioned that the game was amazing.
According to Reddit user TCXIV, they received the game’s collector’s edition and finished what he described as an "amazing game, what a trip." He then uploaded numerous screenshots of different aspects of the game, such as menus, interface, bestiary, demons, cutscenes, big spoiler moments, and more.
Here at Game8, we gave DOOM: The Dark Ages an 88 out of 100 for its brutal renaissance of the DOOM series, trading the aerial flair of DOOM (2016) and Eternal for a grittier, boots-on-the-ground combat loop. To know more about our thoughts on the game, check out our article below!
Official Launch Trailer
Bethesda released the game’s official launch trailer on May 9, which featured story elements and gameplay snippets of the upcoming DOOM prequel. The video showcased the game’s hellish aesthetics and brutality, enticing fans of the franchise and introducing new ones to the series’ prequel.
It also showed the game's Premium edition, which includes up to 2 days early access, future campaign DLC, digital artbook and sountrack, and Divinity skin pack. Check out our DOOM: The Dark Ages Preorder and DLC for more information.
