Mastering Lumina Abilities in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is key to building powerful party members and avoiding frustrating failures. This guide, which may contain spoilers, explains how to acquire and utilize Lumina Abilities.
First, understand that Lumina Abilities differ from Pictos: they're passive, party-wide boosts, unlike Pictos' single-character effects. However, mastering Pictos is a prerequisite.
This guide covers:
- Understanding Lumina Abilities
- Acquiring Lumina Points
- Obtaining Lumina Abilities
- Utilizing Lumina Abilities
For more Expedition 33 strategies, see our tips and tricks page.
Lumina Abilities Explained
Lumina Abilities provide ongoing stat boosts and buffs for your entire party. Mastering a Picto (using it in four battles) unlocks its corresponding Lumina Ability, allowing you to leverage its benefits without equipping the Picto itself.
Acquiring Lumina Points
Gain Lumina Points by leveling up characters; each level grants one point. Additionally, use the "Colour of Lumina" resource with the Camp Curator between battles to earn extra points. Efficient Lumina Point acquisition is crucial for equipping abilities.
Obtaining Lumina Abilities
Mastering Pictos unlocks Lumina Abilities. After mastering, a notification appears at the screen's bottom, listing the newly acquired ability(ies).
Utilizing Lumina Abilities
Lumina Abilities are passive; their activation is the key. Access the character menu, find the "Luminas" section (usually near the bottom right), and select available abilities. Each ability has a Lumina Point cost, and more points allow for more simultaneous activations. You have a limited number of slots. Note that abilities linked to equipped Pictos are automatically active and cannot be deactivated.
The left side of the menu displays available Luminas, filterable by category (e.g., Offensive). Select desired abilities (provided you have sufficient Lumina Points). Manage your Lumina Abilities outside of battle; adjustments cannot be made mid-fight.
Lumina Point costs are displayed next to each ability's name. You can activate and deactivate abilities freely outside combat. Consider adjusting your Lumina loadout between battles to optimize your strategy.
