1. Travel to one of these locations: Dark Fissure, Fort Istirus, Fort Linchal, or Wendelbek. Each features an altar marked by red cloth. The location choice doesn't affect the outcome.
2. Await the appearance of the Shade of the Revenant. This spectral entity interacts with the altar and appears every eight in-game days, beginning on Day 1 (then Day 9, 17, 25, etc.).
3. Deposit your Grand Soul Gems into the altar. The altar functions as temporary storage; you can place multiple gems.
4. Cast Soul Trap on the altar. This spell converts one Grand Soul Gem into a Black Soul Gem per cast. Repeat for each gem placed.
5. Retrieve your newly crafted Black Soul Gems.

Important Note: Remember that the Vampire Cure quest requires five Grand Soul Gems. Don't convert all your Grand Soul Gems if you intend to complete this quest. Black Soul Gems are unique in their ability to trap humanoid souls, making them invaluable for enchanting in Oblivion Remastered.
