Baldur's Gate 3: The Ultimate Guide to the Death Field Priest:

Death realm, the priest's child class option added in the giant patch 8 of Baldur's Gate 3, provides priests with a dark path focused on necromancers. If you like to be a pastor who can truly control the darkness, whether on the right or evil side, then this is an option worth considering.

This guide will review the abilities this subprofession has given you in detail and provide advice on how to best utilize the Death Domain toolkit.

Sub-professional characteristics

The priest chooses their sub-profession at level 1 and immediately gains the benefits of that sub-profession. They then gain additional benefits at priest levels 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 (mostly in the form of extra spells that are considered always ready). The benefits of becoming a death priest are as follows, remember that they also receive the standard benefits that all pastors receive:

Level 1

The realm of death immediately gives the priest the ability to master military weapons.

The priest also gains the "Death" passive skill, which allows them to attack an extra creature with their necromancer tricks. At the time of writing, related tricks available for the death field priests in not many occupations are cold bones, blast tendons, and death knives. Of these options, the death knives are arguably the most extensive and useful trick that can benefit from this ability.

Finally, the priest added the following spells as their realm spells:

  • Fake life
  • Disease Ray
  • One of the following (player selection):
    • Cold bones
    • Burning tendons
    • Death bell

Domain spells are considered always ready, even if they are not usually available to the priest class, they are considered on your spell list. It is worth noting that the Explosive Stubble and the Death Knives are priest tricks, which means you can choose them as part of your standard trick choice. Cold bone is not; if you want a non-multi-professional priest to have Cold bone, you need to choose it as the Necromancer's Choice for the Death Realm Priest.

The Death Realm Priest can choose from three standard tricks and then choose the fourth (specially necromancer) trick as part of their realm choice. By choosing Death Knives as one of your standard tricks, you can choose Cold Bone as your Death Realm trick to get two of the best tricks for your Passive Skills of Death. If the Death Knives does not appear in your normal trick selection list, make sure it is not selected as your realm trick.

Burst tendons, while another necromancer trick you can use, are a mediocre option that can often be ignored because it relies on having corpses near your enemies and the damage done is not enough to prove its limited use.

Level 2

The Pastor of the Death Realm gains the Death Touch feature. When they make any melee attacks, they can spend a Divine Power Guidance fee to deal additional necrotic damage equals twice their priest level plus five .

Level 3

The priest obtains the following realm spells:

  • blindness
  • Weak rays

Level 5

The priest obtains the following realm spells:

  • Resurrection of dead corpse
  • Blood-sucking contact

Level 6

The realm of Death gives the priest the inevitable passive skill of destruction. This causes any necrotic damage they cause to bypass resistance and deal all damage.

Level 7

The priest obtains the following realm spells:

  • withered
  • Necromancer Shield

Level 8

The Pastor of the Death Realm receives the Divine Strike: Necrotic Power. Once per turn, they can use their reactions to deal additional 1d8 necrotic damage whenever they make a ranged or melee attack.

Level 9

The priest obtains the following realm spells:

  • Poison Cloud Technique
  • infectious disease

Choose a god

All pastors need to choose the deity they worship. Mechanically, this will associate the deity’s tag with your character and occasionally give you some unique options for dialogue options. This choice is almost entirely for role-playing and will not affect your mechanical survivability in combat.

It can be said that the two deities most relevant to the realm of Death are Shar and Kelemwo, but the custom characters cannot choose to worship Shar (in the game, only Shadow Heart can do so). However, Baldur's Gate 3 does not require you to choose a character that is particularly relevant to your field when creating a character. You can choose any god you think is the most interesting; because of God's conflict with Shar, Seluni and Shadow Heart offer some particularly interesting dialogue options.

Create a powerful priest in the realm of death

Best Death Cleric Build in Baldur's Gate<🎵>

The Death Realm Priest immediately gains the ability to attack two enemies with a death knell per turn, a rather powerful necromancer trick. If possible, you should target the already injured creatures, as this will cause the spell to use d12 instead of d8 to cause damage.

The character is also able to use "Impose Damage" to deal a lot of necrotic damage very consistently, and "Inevitable Destruction" (obtained at 6th level of the priest) will break through destructive resistance. "Apply Damage" is also counted as melee attacks, so "Death Touch" and "Divine Strike: Necrosis" can further enhance the damage of this already-hit spell.

The Death Priest in the later game also has very powerful abilities, first using the level 6 spell "Hero Feast" to enhance the team, and then using "Poison Cloud Technique", because the team will become immune to its impact because "Hero Feast" gives it immunity to the damage of "Poison Cloud Technique". With this combination, you can deal pretty decent toxin damage in a large range per turn, seriously obscuring anything that is good for you, and repositioning the clouds every turn for maximum effect, all of which are almost risky to the team.

Please note that "Hero Feast" does not give complete toxin damage immunity. "Poison Cloud Technique" just applies a state that then causes toxin damage, and "Hero Feast" prevents this state.

As far as feats are concerned, you should use ability enhancements to maximize your intelligence attributes as early as possible, which will increase your spell attack bonus and your priest spell savings DC. Depending on the spells you find yourself casting frequently, you may also want to consider "War Castor", which will give you an advantage on your focus saving throws.

Your equipment options are very wide, because the death priests can use almost everything because of their realm that gives military weapon proficiency. One item worth picking up in Act 2 will be the Ring of Bone, which can be obtained by killing Balsazze, which allows you to cast the "Resurrection Dead" for free for every long break and provides undead resistance to blunt attack, puncture and slash damage within 6 meters of the wearer. Entering the third act, you also need to consider equipting Katherick's shield, which will provide a +1 spell saving throw DC and spell attack bonus.

Many sources claim that the Ratander Blood obtained in Act 1 is the best priest weapon, and for good reason. Although it is not a military weapon, it is a +3 mace with many powerful abilities, especially effective against undead creatures.
