Intel releases a driver update specifically designed to boost the performance of its integrated Intel Arc 130V and 140V graphics chips found in the unique Intel Core Ultra 200V processors (codenamed Lunar Lake). These processors are notable for their integrated memory and are the only Intel processors to feature these particular graphics chips.
While these integrated graphics are among the best Intel offers, they still sit at the lower end of gaming performance capabilities. Intel emphasizes the driver's benefits are most pronounced at the standard 17W power level, meaning they aren't meant to rival dedicated GPUs from Nvidia or AMD.
Despite this, the free performance upgrade is a welcome addition. Intel claims the new driver provides an average 10% increase in frames per second (fps) compared to its predecessor.
Gaming Performance Gains:
Intel's benchmarks, conducted using the MSI Claw 8 AI+ handheld gaming console (instead of a typical laptop), reveal significant performance improvements across several popular games:
- Black Myth: Wukong: Improved from 36fps to 41fps, resulting in smoother gameplay.
- Cyberpunk 2077: Increased from 49fps to 52fps.
- Payday 3: Showed the most significant jump, from 79fps to 89fps.
- DOTA 2: Experienced a substantial increase from 81fps to 94fps.
- Fortnite: Saw a considerable improvement, from 89fps to 105fps.
Unfortunately, owners of laptops or other handheld devices equipped with the Intel Core Ultra 200V processors will likely need to wait for the driver update to become available. The update is currently available for the MSI Claw 8 AI+ and Claw 7 AI+ handhelds, but broader availability will depend on validation by other hardware manufacturers. The driver can be downloaded directly from the Intel website.
