Google Translate adds language learning function
According to Android Authority , app expert AssembleDebug has found that the latest version of the Google Translate app contains a new "practice" mode of testing code designed to help users improve their language skills through personalized activities. This feature is currently invisible to users, but AssembleDebug is able to partially activate it and view some of its new user interface elements.
The relevant pop-up prompt shows "Practice activities tailored for you!", which means Google will generate customized practice courses, probably using Gemini AI to help users improve their language skills.
At present, we can only do this; clicking this button will currently jump to an invalid link. Until the feature finally comes out, we can’t understand the full impact of Google’s language practice activities.
Once activated, the Practice mode button will also appear next to any translation results generated by the app, and may link the user to practice activities related to the current translation. Similarly, we need to wait and see.
You can see a short demo of the new features in the YouTube video below:
A new button is also displayed in the AssembleDebug video, allowing you to immediately google searches in the translated language, and the results are also displayed in that language.
Google Translate’s Challenge for Duolingo
Google's new "practice" model marks an important new direction for the app, which has so far focused on translation rather than language education. With more than 500 million users worldwide, Google Translator is fully capable of occupying at least a small part of Duolingo's 116.7 million monthly active users. However, Google Translate has a lot to do if it is to match Duolingo's attractive gamified app experience. Despite this challenge, I expect Google Translate’s new “practice” feature will attract many users who have not yet considered learning apps with a dedicated language.
