A report found that an updated interface was hidden in the code for Google Photos Android version 7.26, and each time you view a photo, a row of newly detected face thumbnails are displayed at the bottom of the screen.
This feature is not available yet, so we don't know how Google will use it accurately. Google can use thumbnails to speed up finding more photos of selected people, or may be used for other purposes, such as selecting the individual to edit. Let's wait and see.
For now, new face thumbnail lines take up screen space, which is often used by other interface elements, such as the button that appears when you need to select a single image from the photo stack. Google has to decide which controls to show you based on the context and the type of image you are currently viewing.
Larger thumbnails and name tags are still available as face groups in the “Person” section of the infographic (see below).

Google Photos uses facial recognition technology to automatically combine photos of recognized people or pets into facial groups. This makes it easy for you to search for specific people, or let Google Photos generate its popular "memories" highlights based on what we know best.
You can see who Google Photos has detected in the photos you are currently viewing by swiping up to show the People section below. You can edit the name of the person here by clicking "Edit Face".
The detected face is only visible to you and will not be shared with others when you share photos.
