Apple News launches a new food section to provide Apple News subscribers with rich recipes, restaurant reviews, cooking skills and more. iOS 18.4 and iPadOS 18.4 will be launched after being updated, and non-subscribers can also browse some content.

This food area will be launched simultaneously with iOS 18.4 and iPadOS 18.4 updates on March 31. It has not yet been logged into macOS Sequoia 15.4, and it is still unclear whether it will be supported in the future.

The area contains recipes from well-known food publishers such as Allrecipes, Bon Appétit, Food & Wine, Good Food, Serious Eats and EatingWell, and will continue to be updated in the future.

How to find the Apple News Food Zone

iPhone users can find it in the "Follow" tab of the News App, while iPad users can view it in the sidebar. iPad users can click "Edit" in the sidebar and drag "Food" to the tab bar for easy and quick access.

The food section is located at the top, in the same area as Puzzle Games, Share with You, Saved Stories, and History. Click to open. There are “Recipe Catalog” and “Save Recipe” buttons on the top to make it easy to find and manage recipes.

The More (•••) icon in the upper right corner can be used to share or copy links to the Apple News Food Zone. The spoon icon next to it opens the recipe directory. Below are Apple News editors’ selection of special recipes that may be displayed after which you have recently browsed and saved recipes.

The Apple News Food Zone homepage not only contains recipe articles, but also provides news reports and Apple News audio stories in healthy eating, tools and tips, recommendations for you. So it’s not just a collection of recipes, it also covers great content like restaurant reviews, cooking tips, kitchen supplies and more.

Browse, search and filter recipe catalogs

Once you open the recipe catalog, you can browse topics like “Chicken Dinner for the Week,” “New Recipes,” “Hot Recipes,” and columns from publishers like Real Simple, Serious Eats, and EatingWell. The round icons near the top can be filtered by themes such as dinner, simple, vegetarian, dessert, etc.

You can use the search bar at the top to find specific content, or click the Filter button in the upper right corner of the recipe catalog to narrow down by time, dish type, diet preferences, and other topics. After selecting one or more filter criteria, the number of recipes that meet the criteria is displayed at the bottom. You can unfilter, click Clear All to start over, or click Apply to view results.

View recipe instructions, ingredients and details

Once you find the recipe you want to view, click it to view the recipe card. It displays portions of the recipe, links to publisher stories, and “Cook,” “Save,” and “Share” buttons. Scroll down to view the topping list, recipe instructions, and more details, which displays recommended recipes and themes. You can click the ingredients to grey it in your ingredient list so you know which ingredients you already have.

In the article containing related recipes, you will see a large "Recipe" button that takes you to the recipe card. So you don’t need to open the recipe catalog to find recipes – you can open a new story with a companion recipe card anywhere (such as the Today tab) and click the Recipe button. If you are viewing a magazine article with multiple recipes, click the large “Recipes” button to see a list of all recipes in that issue.

Click the More (•••) button on the recipe card to view quick links for Save Recipe, Read Stories, Copy Links, and Share Recipes. Click the "Cook" button above the recipe description to open a full-screen view of ingredients and instructions, which works best on the iPad's large screen. This is very useful when shopping or cooking, and you can click on the ingredients to mark the ingredients you already have. While following the step-by-step instructions, you can swipe to view additional steps, or just click on a step to pull it to focus.
