Forbes NYT Connections Hints and Answers for Saturday, April 19th
Hey Connectors! Hope you're having a fantastic weekend!
I've been considering video solutions for Connections (and might still!), but AI voice scraping concerns are a deterrent. This is why I haven't live-streamed. While appealing, it makes me anxious.
However, I'm exploring anonymous options: voice-only streams (with my new microphone!) or an animated avatar (a V-tuber, perhaps!). It's a fun idea, but for now, it's on my ever-growing to-do list. And if I do it, I won't promote it here – that would defeat the purpose!
Before we dive in, I've created a Discord group for NYT Connections and this column. It's a friendly community where we discuss more than just NYT games. It's also the best place to provide feedback, especially if I make a rare mistake (I don't check comments or Twitter much).
How to Play Connections
Connections is a popular New York Times daily word game. A new puzzle appears daily at midnight. You can play on the NYT website or app.
The game presents 16 words; your task is to arrange them into four groups of four, based on their connections. These could be anything from clickable items to body-part-prefixed words.
There's only one solution. Shuffle the words to find links. Groups are color-coded: yellow is usually easiest, purple the hardest (often involving wordplay).
Incorrect guesses cost a life; four mistakes end the game. Hints and answers are available if needed. Share your results! NYT subscribers can access the game archive. For older games, Google my hints using the date.
Today's Connections Hints
Scroll slowly! Hints are followed by group descriptions (without specific words).
Today's 16 words are: BAR, JOKE, BUNNY, SHIRT, DYE, WHIP, SOCK, PEEP, EGG, GANDER, HIP, RUBBER BANDS, LOOK, BASIN, CODE, GLANCE
Hints:
- Yellow group — a quick peek
- Green group — essentials for a staple of '60s fashion
- Blue group — like safe or rib
- Purple group — these are on the left. Meanwhile, on the right, perhaps…
Today's Connections Groups
Need more help? (Spoilers ahead!)
Groups:
- Yellow group — glimpse
- Green group — needs for tie-dying a shirt
- Blue group — things you can crack
- Purple group — words before "hop"
Today's Connections Answers
Major spoilers! Don't read further unless you're ready!
Answers:
- Yellow group — glimpse (GANDER, GLANCE, LOOK, PEEP)
- Green group — needs for tie-dying a shirt (BASIN, DYE, RUBBER BANDS, SHIRT)
- Blue group — things you can crack (CODE, EGG, JOKE, WHIP)
- Purple group — words before "hop" (BAR, BUNNY, HIP, SOCK)
I got a perfect game (54 straight wins!). Here's my solution process. I solved the yellows first, then the blues, followed by an educated guess on the purples (learning about sock hops!), and finally the greens.
Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Reach out to someone you care about!

The recent news of large-scale layoffs in the electronic arts industry continues to attract industry attention, and the layoffs have also affected one of the industry's giants, Electric Arts (EA). According to Bloomberg, EA has laid off more than 300 employees this time, about one-third of which comes from Respawn Entertainment studio, which has created the "Titanfall", "Apex Heroes" and "Star Wars Jedi" series. Respawn Studios issued a statement on its official X account on Monday, saying the layoffs resulted in the cancellation of two "early incubation projects". This tweet is currently unavailable.
