A Classic 'SD Gundam' Mobile Suit Gets Its First Toy After 25 Years

This September, Bandai Spirits will release a Robot Damashii action figure of the Phoenix Gundam, a mecha first introduced in the 2000 PlayStation game SD Gundam G Generation F. While previously seen in chibi form and as garage kits, this marks the first time the Phoenix Gundam receives a "regular" proportioned action figure.

The figure will transform into Bird Mode and include its full arsenal of weaponry, including the distinctive Feather Bits.

Fans may remember the Phoenix Gundam from its recent appearance as a free unit in SD Gundam Battle Alliance, where its Sharpshooter classification allowed for rapid weapon deployment.

However, this Robot Damashii release will be exclusive to Premium Bandai in Japan, with pre-orders starting tomorrow. Priced at 14,300 yen (approximately $100 USD), the figure's relatively affordable price point likely reflects the absence of die-cast parts.

This release raises hopes for future Robot Damashii figures, particularly a highly-requested figure of the Gundam Latreia, another popular SD Gundam Battle Alliance mecha. The Gundam Latreia's striking design makes it a prime candidate for similar high-quality action figure treatment.
