A few months ago, we invited Marc Anton Dahmen to showcase his Database-free Content Management System (CMS) Automad. His article delves into template engines, including how they work, how CMS uses them, and how they affect how we write, such as loops.
Automad 1.3.0 has just been released, and it introduces the "headless" model to make it more in line with the future development trends in the CMS field (pun).
What is a "headless" CMS? I always find the name a little weird, but the idea is that the content creation engine is completely separated from the front-end display, but rather is combined with the API. This means we can get all the benefits of creating content in CMS without being locked into its template requirements. Chris gave a more comprehensive explanation of the concept a few years ago.
WordPress and its REST API are a great example. We can still enjoy WordPress’s easy-to-use UI and extensible management capabilities, but we can create a front-end by sending data anywhere through the API. Would you rather write templates in JavaScript than PHP? Just let it go!
If the CMS is the body and the front view is the head, the body can unscrew the head and replace it with another one. Very strange, right?
Whether Automad, WordPress, Sanity, Contentful, Ghost, Netlify CMS, or other growing API priorities, the transition to headless is an area worthy of attention. HeadlessCMS.org is a great resource to learn about. We can see huge changes that will lead to better content and developer experiences, and that's exactly what all these efforts want to achieve.
The above is the detailed content of 'Headless Mode'. For more information, please follow other related articles on the PHP Chinese website!
