Footnote Characters

Sometimes, some special superset numeric characters are ideal for use as footnote markers. They are:

¹ ² ³ ⁴ ⁵ ⁶ ⁷ ⁸ ⁹

I usually prefer to set the numbers as superscripts myself, for example:

<p> This next word <sup>1</sup> has a footnote.</p>

This way, if I want to do a special treatment on the superscript number, I can select it in CSS or JavaScript.

You may also add an anchor link around to link to the ID of the footnotes elsewhere on the page to interpret the footnotes.

However, using HTML is not always practical or possible when writing text. For example, I am currently writing using the WordPress Gutenberg editor. I can write it in HTML blocks if needed, but it is more practical to use the default paragraph blocks that have options like bold, italic, and strikethrough, but do not support superscripts. I don't really want to convert a block to HTML just to use superscript numbers. So I used special Unicode characters¹.
