Forbes NYT Connections: April 10th Hints and Solutions

By Kris Holt

I'm not a fan of cooking. While I can follow a recipe, my culinary improvisation skills are, shall we say, lacking. I enjoy breakfast and the occasional baking project, but that's about it. Cooking dinner? Not so much. It's time-consuming, and I'm a painfully slow cook. In the 19 months since moving, I've probably cooked a proper dinner fewer than ten times.

My solution? A weekly meal delivery service providing six ready-to-heat meals. I supplement with takeout or simple recipes. The cost is reasonable, and I appreciate the built-in portion control – a real help for me.

If you love cooking, fantastic! And if you visit, I'll gladly cook for you. My point is: there are often better alternatives to struggling with tasks we dislike. These alternatives don't always cost more; sometimes, saving time is worth a little extra expense.

Before we dive into today's NYT Connections puzzle, a quick reminder: I've started a Discord group for NYT Connections discussions and feedback. It's a fun community, and the best place to provide feedback, especially if you spot any errors (though I rarely check comments or Twitter).

Today's NYT Connections hints and answers for Thursday, April 10th are below.

How to Play Connections

Connections is a daily word puzzle from the New York Times. A new puzzle appears daily at midnight. You can play on the NYT website or app.

The game presents a 16-word grid. Your goal is to arrange them into four groups of four, based on their relationships. These relationships can be anything from shared characteristics to wordplay.

There's only one correct solution. Incorrect guesses cost you a life; four incorrect guesses end the game. You can shuffle the words to help find connections. The yellow group is usually easiest, purple the hardest (often involving wordplay).

Hints and Answers

Proceed slowly to avoid spoilers! I'll provide hints for each group, followed by the group theme without revealing the specific words.

Today's 16 words are:

  • NAUGHTY
  • CANARY
  • COAL
  • MINE
  • MUSTARD
  • SOY
  • RESERVE
  • MAYO
  • GOLD
  • GUSTO
  • GRINCH
  • ELLA
  • WELL
  • BAH
  • LEMON
  • STORE

Hints:

  • Yellow group — think digital security or online safety.
  • Green group — relates to supplies or stock.
  • Blue group — associated with the least joyful time of year.
  • Purple group — words from a specific language.

Group Themes (Spoilers):

Need more help? Be warned: we're entering spoiler territory.

The group themes are:

  • Yellow group — shades of yellow
  • Green group — supply
  • Blue group — anti-Christmas sentiment
  • Purple group — Spanish words

Answers (Major Spoilers!):

Don't read further unless you're ready for the answers! This is your final warning!

The solutions are:

  • Yellow group — shades of yellow (CANARY, GOLD, LEMON, MUSTARD)
  • Green group — supply (MINE, RESERVE, STORE, WELL)
  • Blue group — anti-Christmas sentiment (BAH, COAL, GRINCH, NAUGHTY)
  • Purple group — Spanish words (ELLA, GUSTO, MAYO, SOY)

My game progress:

???? ???? ???? ???? ????

The "CANARY in a COAL MINE" connection was clever. The yellow group was obvious. I initially considered a group of words meaning "belonging to me" in different languages but realized I was one word off.

The blue group was next, focusing on anti-Christmas themes. The green and purple groups followed logically. While I recognized SOY and GUSTO as Spanish words, my Spanish is...limited. (Embarrassing, considering my recent trip to the Dominican Republic!)

Rockstar May Have 'Upgraded' Lucia And Jason's Faces In 'GTA 6' TrailerRockstar May Have 'Upgraded' Lucia And Jason's Faces In 'GTA 6' TrailerMay 09, 2025 am 11:00 AM

Players have an interesting point: Jason and Lucia have a different look than the original trailer in the latest trailer. They believe that the character's facial model has changed to some extent, not only with better visual effects, but also with more attractiveness. Is this statement correct? One problem is that 80% of the original GTA 6 trailer was random shots from Miami and Leonida, with relatively little attention to Lucia and Jason. Jason barely appeared in the trailer, which focused on the plot of Lucia's release from prison. While the latest trailer provides more footage about the two of them, Rockstar has also released a complete news package containing their high-definition images. I think this
