Kaiserpunk: A Guide to Managing Your City's Population
Your city in Kaiserpunk thrives on its people. From the outset, you'll need citizens to fulfill various roles – woodcutters, miners, farmers, factory workers, engineers, and more – to maintain a functioning city. Understanding population management, including attracting new arrivals and keeping them content, is crucial for growth.
This guide covers housing, needs, luxuries, and immigration mechanics to help you build a prosperous city.
Housing, Needs, and Luxuries
Your city's population capacity for each of the four classes (Laborers, Manufacturers, Technicians, and Specialists) is directly tied to available housing. More housing equals a larger workforce. (See the Immigration section for details.) Meeting your citizens' needs and providing luxuries are essential for maintaining high morale and maximizing tax revenue.
Housing
Housing is class-specific. Each class has standard and high-rise options:
- Standard Housing: 4x4 footprint, houses up to 30 people.
- High-Rise Housing: 6x4 footprint, houses up to 80 people. Requires more advanced building materials.
While more expensive, high-rises are significantly more space-efficient.
Needs
Needs are essential for survival and maintaining a basic standard of living. For every 40 citizens in a class, you need one unit of each of their required needs.
Each class requires the needs of the lower classes, plus their own:
Class | Needs |
---|---|
Laborers | Vegetables, Bread |
Manufacturers | Vegetables, Bread, Meat, Fish, Water |
Technicians | Vegetables, Bread, Meat, Fish, Water, Electricity, Fish Soup, Juice |
Specialists | Vegetables, Bread, Meat, Fish, Water, Electricity, Fish Soup, Juice, Sushi, Pie |
Luxuries
Luxuries aren't essential for survival but significantly impact morale and tax revenue. Citizens only pay maximum taxes if all luxury needs are met. Each luxury unit satisfies 75 citizens.
Like needs, each class requires the luxuries of lower classes, plus their own:
Class | Luxuries |
---|---|
Laborers | Clothes, Newspapers |
Manufacturers | Clothes, Newspapers, Ale, Gramophones, Radios |
Technicians | Clothes, Newspapers, Ale, Gramophones, Radios, Telephones, Fine Clothing |
Specialists | Clothes, Newspapers, Ale, Gramophones, Radios, Telephones, Fine Clothing, Wine, Jewelry, TV Sets |
Immigration
Your controlled regions provide daily immigrants. The number of immigrants per day depends on the region's stability. These immigrants enter your city's immigration pool. They'll move in immediately if housing is available; otherwise, they wait until suitable housing is built. Waiting immigrants don't work or pay taxes.
Building a Propaganda Office in a region boosts immigration and slightly increases regional stability.
