1Password launches new location-based features to facilitate users to access relevant data.
This feature allows users to associate data stored in 1Password apps such as passwords, PINs, and codes with specific physical locations. When the user is close to the specified location, the 1Password mobile app displays relevant information. Users can assign a single physical location to any item in their 1Password account. Just select the item in the app and click on the "Add Location" option. When the user is in a specified geographic area, the 1Password mobile app's home screen displays the associated item. The app also provides map views for easy setting and viewing of locations.
This feature is designed to improve convenience, not necessary. Users do not need to worry about forgetting the project name, because the system will automatically display relevant data based on the location. For example, users can quickly access Wi-Fi passwords at home, access medical records at the doctor’s office, access alert codes at the workplace, or access travel documents at the airport. Even if it is not in the specified location, the user can still access all the data, but it will not be displayed automatically.
This innovative feature originated from the 1Password internal hackathon. Participants seek a solution that does not need to remember the project name, but instead relies on proximity to trigger the display of relevant data. This feature has now become a standard feature for applications after receiving positive feedback in internal testing and 1Password Labs projects.
Regarding the management of location data, 1Password ensures that location data is processed locally on the user device and will never be transmitted to the 1Password server. The company also guarantees that 1Password itself and employers of corporate accounts cannot access or view user location data. This feature is optional and users can enable or disable it on the customizable home screen of iOS and Android apps.
This new feature is very practical, especially for those using 1Password for purposes other than passwords, making it easier to manage projects in the application. This feature is now available to 1Password users, please download the latest updates to the app now. If you want to try it but don’t have 1Password yet, the company also offers a 14-day trial.
