How to unsend messages you’ve sent via Facebook and other apps

Respect the wrong message? Many instant messaging applications provide withdrawal function, but the operation method and time limits vary. This article will guide you on how to withdraw messages in common applications.

Facebook Messenger:

Messenger's version 191.0 (Apple App Store) has added a withdrawal function, which can be withdrawn within 10 minutes after sending. Before this update, you can only delete messages on your device, and messages received by the other party will not be affected. Now, as long as you operate within 10 minutes, the message will disappear from both parties’ chat history.

WhatsApp:

WhatsApp launched the withdrawal feature earlier, initially limited to within 7 minutes of sending. Currently, users have about an hour to delete everyone's messages. The function is called "Delete Everyone". After withdrawing, a prompt message will be left indicating that the message has been deleted.

Instagram:

Instagram's withdrawal message is the easiest. Select the conversation, press and hold the message you want to withdraw, and select "Retract", and the message will disappear from the chat history of both parties.

Gmail:

Gmail's "Uns Send" feature allows you to withdraw emails within about 10 seconds of sending. After sending a confirmation, the "Undo" option appears. Earlier this year, this feature was also added to the Android version of Gmail app, and a black prompt bar will be displayed at the bottom of the screen after sending.

Google Hangouts:

Hangouts does not have real withdrawal function. You can turn off your chat history, but the other party can still see the message. Deleting messages or entire conversations cannot be deleted from the other party's records either.

Snapchat:

Snapchat's Clear Chat feature allows you to delete stickers, audio, text, pictures and videos sent from Memories. However, images or videos sent to individuals or groups cannot be withdrawn, and only messages sent using archived content can be deleted.

Twitter DM:

The withdrawal of a Twitter private message is relatively simple. The web version can click the trash can icon next to the message to delete it; you need to long press and select the message to be deleted in the application. The message will be automatically deleted from both parties' inboxes, but the other party may have seen the message before you withdraw it.

Apple Messages:

Apple's own SMS app does not have a withdraw function, and deletion messages will only be deleted from your own device. However, since messages are stored in the cloud, they will be updated synchronously on all devices after deletion, which is an improvement over the previous deletion of only local messages.

Android SMS:

The Android system does not have an official withdrawal SMS feature, but some third-party applications (such as "On Second Thought") can provide a withdrawal time window of seconds to one minute. You can also try to quickly switch to flight mode before sending, but with fast network speeds, this method has a low success rate.
