Android Duplicate Photo Removal

Most Android users utilize Google Photos, which has built-in duplicate detection—preventing identical image uploads to the cloud. However, local duplicates can still exist. For example, a photo taken and then sent via a messaging app creates a separate copy.

To find and remove these local duplicates, use Files by Google. Tap the "Clean" icon (bottom toolbar). If duplicates exist, a prompt appears to delete them. Select individual duplicates or "All duplicates." Only copies are deleted; originals remain.

Samsung Galaxy phones offer similar functionality within the Samsung My Files app. Navigate to "Manage storage" and then "Duplicate files." Select copies for deletion.
