SMS is very convenient, but if you often have countless text messages and dozens of group chats with countless people, it can be difficult to find specific conversations when needed.
The Apple built-in Message app on iOS allows you to pin the most important chats to the top of the app, allowing you to quickly access them no matter the time you last sent a message. This is an easy-to-use feature, but also easily overlooked, and there are three ways to do the job.
The easiest way to pin a conversation on iOS 14 or later is to open the Info app, find the chat you want to save (but don't open it), and then swipe it from left to right to show the yellow pin button. Swipe the screen all the way to the right to activate it, or click on it if you stop swiping halfway through.
The third option is most useful if you want to pin multiple conversations at once. On the main Information screen, click in the upper left corner to edit , and then click to edit fixed item . The yellow pushpin icons will appear next to each conversation, and you can click on them to place the chat at the top of the list – up to nine can be saved.
Cannot swipe quickly to cancel the pinned chat, so if you want to delete the conversation from the starting list, you have to select one of the two options.
The fastest way to use it here is to start with the Edit button in the upper left corner of the main "Information" screen. Click on it and in addition to the yellow pushpin icon next to the unfixed conversation, you will also see the minus icon next to the already fixed conversation. Click the minus sign icon to cancel the fixed chat. Again, this is most useful for batch editing, as you can add and remove pinned discussions as you like.
Another option is to long press and hold the fixed chat and select to unpin . You can only edit one conversation at a time in this way, and you won't be able to replace unpinned conversations with new conversations right away. Note: Your brain may trick you into thinking that the bright red Delete button is what you want - it is not. Of course, this permanently deletes the entire conversation.
You can also rearrange them by long pressing any fixed chats from the home screen. This will display the fixed options menu and display a preview of the chat. Ignore all of this and drag on the screen with your fingers. Everything else will disappear and you can drag and drop the conversation where you want it. This isn't the most convenient way, but hey, you can do that.
