Brave Browser: a high-speed browser that is privacy-first, created by Brendan Eich, the father of JavaScript.
Core points:
Today, we have the honor to invite the creator of the JavaScript programming language, the co-founder of the Mozilla project, and recently Brave Software, a startup that aims to transform the online advertising ecosystem with faster and safer browsing) CEO Brendan Eich.
Brendan will discuss with us Brave Browser, a new browser that automatically blocks ads and trackers. It will soon integrate the micropayment system, allowing users to choose to watch featured ads, pay to avoid ads, and even Enjoy the "ad-free" experience for free.
Excerpt from the interview transcript:
Elio: Brendan, thank you for taking the time to talk to us. I think the past few months must have been very busy for you?
Brendan: Very busy!
Elio: Can you tell us first who Brave’s target user is? Is it for ordinary users, or those who are more proficient in technology?
Brendan: Brave is for all users who care about their online privacy and browsing speed, and is closely related due to the rise of invasive, inefficient and even dangerous third-party advertising technologies.
Elio: How is using Brave different from the current status (i.e., users install ad blockers and privacy extensions)? For example, can it protect users from malware spread through advertising?
Brendan: Brave blocks ads and their tracking cookies and "pixels" by default without charging fees to allow certain ads to pass like the top ad blocking browser extensions. We restore secure https links as much as possible to achieve ubiquitous HTTPS. We will also defend against various types of fingerprint recognition.
Our roadmap includes: a private/anonymous advertising system where advertisers cannot track our users but will have a truly anonymous measure of ad performance. User data is only retained on their own devices; even Brave servers cannot see it. All ad matching logic runs on the device as well. To prove valid ad impressions, we use a new protocol based on zero-knowledge proof.
Through this business, we give users the same total advertising revenue share as us.
