Destiny 2's hidden Exotic SMG, Barrow-Dyad, awaits within the Derealize mission, a challenging but rewarding Exotic quest found aboard the derelict Dreadnaught. This guide details how to unlock and complete this mission solo. A powerful Heavy weapon is key to success.
If you've already unlocked Derealize, completion should be straightforward. This guide covers unlocking the mission and navigating each encounter, including the No Escape puzzle and platforming sections.
Derealize is part of the Episode: Heresy. Unlike previous Exotic missions, it's hidden behind a challenging quest. A full walkthrough is available elsewhere, but here's a summary:
Upon completion, Derealize will be accessible in your Director, under The Nether: Explore in The Last City map.

Derealize operates at 2,015 Power, with Overcharge and Surges active but no Champions. Overcharged weapons deal 25% increased damage, as do weapons and abilities matching the active Surges (these bonuses don't stack).
Derealize's difficulty is comparable to an Expert Lost Sector. Enemy density is high, with several powerful foes. A build capable of handling Tormentors, Subjugators, and offering health regeneration is recommended.
The mission begins in The Mausoleum. Eliminate Subjugators, Tormentors, and other enemies. There are no time limits or revive restrictions. Floating eyes inflict Suffocating Darkness; seek cover to avoid lethal stack buildup. Clear enemies and a Subjugator miniboss to deactivate a Darkness resonance field and proceed through a portal.
Vrhiisk, a Subjugator with substantial health and support, requires efficient add control. Damage the boss or adds to trigger an immunity barrier and a Taken wave. Eliminating Ogres spawns a Taken relic; charge it by defeating adds and deposit it to break the barrier. This process repeats; use a Super and close-range DPS for the final phase.
After defeating Vrhiisk, solve a puzzle similar to the Barrow-Dyad quest's initial plate. Activate four Hive runes in the correct order (determined by the chevron on each plate). The correct sequence activates the runes and allows escape.
This section involves navigating piston traps and jumping through gaps in walls (indicated by lights). Destroy three Hive crystals (one left, two right) to remove a Taken forcefield. Follow the path to the final encounter.
Xir-Kuur is guarded by two Hive Knights. Prioritize single-target DPS (e.g., Queenbreaker) and utilize healing abilities. Damage the ground-level Knight, destroying Blights to remove shields. Avoid Taken energy zones. Once heavily damaged, seal the arena to complete the mission. Claim Barrow-Dyad and unlock crafting options.
