Destiny 2's Heresy season surprise: The Barrow-Dyad Exotic SMG quest! This hidden quest chain, released earlier than anticipated, unlocks the powerful Derealize Exotic mission and its coveted primary weapon. This guide details how to begin and complete "The Taken Path" quest.
Unlike previous Exotic weapon quests, Barrow-Dyad's is shrouded in secrecy. To begin, locate a hidden Taken Blight during a Nether run and jump inside. The Blight's location is random:
Random Blight Spawns
The Blight isn't guaranteed to appear. Repeatedly restarting The Nether mission increases your chances. Blights appear in both playlist variations, including solo runs.
Possible Blight locations:
Once inside the Blight, stand on the lone plate. Follow the directional prompt ("Something whispers to the...") to teleport to a room containing a Taken Osseous Fragment. Retrieve it and return to Eris Morn's apartment in the Last City to begin "The Taken Path" quest.
This short quest chain leads to the Derealize Exotic mission and the Barrow-Dyad SMG. Expect completion within an hour (excluding the mission itself). Subsequent Derealize completions unlock the weapon's catalyst and upgrades.
The first objective requires finding a secret in Sorrow's Harbor, but it's actually within the K1 Revelations Lost Sector. Halfway through, after the Shrieker encounter, shoot a floating Taken Blight to corrupt the sector. Defeat the boss; the fragment is near its usual spawn point.
Next, Sloane's readings lead to the Forgotten Shore (Cosmodrome). Enter the Veles Labyrinth Lost Sector. From the spawn, go left, then right at the next fork. The Blight is in the following room. Destroy it, follow directional prompts, and defeat the Phalanx boss to obtain the fragment.
Three more fragments are locked behind "curses." Each requires using a Taken relic to get kills in a specific activity. Charge the relic, destroy it, and locate the fragment. Complete these until prompted to return to The Nether.
With the curses complete, enter The Nether (private instance recommended). Three Hive statues hold the final fragments. Interact with a statue, defeat the miniboss that spawns, and interact again to claim the fragment. Repeat for all three.

Finally, complete the Derealize Exotic mission (located in The Last City Director). This unlocks the Barrow-Dyad SMG. Further customization options are available at the Enclave in Savathun's Throne World, unlocked through mission secrets and higher difficulty runs.
