In The Sims 2, your teenage Sims can pursue higher education at prestigious universities, experiencing young adulthood with fewer adult responsibilities. This opens doors to new career opportunities post-graduation. Here's how to guide your Sim to academic success:
Creating a University
To enroll your Sim, you must first create a university. Click the graduation cap icon in the upper-left corner of the world view. Three universities are available:
You can also create a custom university from scratch, but this requires building all the lots yourself.
Attending College
Once your Sim becomes a teenager, they can apply to college via phone or computer. This is free, but securing scholarships beforehand is recommended. Alternatively, you can create a young adult Sim directly within the university neighborhood using the "Create A Student" option. Missing the teenage application window means forfeiting the opportunity.
Securing Scholarships
Teen Sims can earn various scholarships based on skills and grades:
Scholarship | Requirements | Award |
---|---|---|
Hogan Award for Athletics | Body skill of 8 or higher | 750 Simoleons |

Extraterrestrial Reparation Grant | Previous alien abduction | 1,500 Simoleons |
Scholarship funds are added to the Sim's college account, helping with dorm furnishings and avoiding immediate cafeteria work.
Dorm vs. Renting
College living options include dorms (free, shared facilities, cafeteria work available, potential for messy roommates) and renting (expensive, private, requires more self-sufficiency). Greek life offers additional social opportunities after joining a fraternity or sorority.
Graduation
Graduation requires completing four years (72 hours) of college. Grades, influenced by class attendance, assignments, and term papers, determine exam scores. Declare a major (via computer) to focus skill development. Undeclared Sims default to Philosophy. Major changes are possible.
Major | Occupations |
---|---|
Undeclared | None |
Art | Culinary, Slacker, Artist, Journalism, Architecture |
Biology | Law Enforcement, Medicine, Natural Science, Education, Oceanography |
