Magic Carta is a strange little thing. In Tales of Graces f Remastered, there are 90 cards in all, each with a quote from a Tales character from the series' long and cherished history. Once you've found them, you can play a memorization minigame in one town, and earn a few rewards for your collection in another.

Tales Of Graces F Remastered: Magic Carta, Explained

We'd never label Magic Carta as remotely mandatory. If you're not interested, that's fine - just know that you'll miss out on some titles, costumes, and the like. If that's enough incentive, or you just plain love the game, here's some help on how to play.

How Do You Collect Magic Carta Cards?

Tales Of Graces F Remastered: Magic Carta, Explained

Well, there are two ways, and one of them is far easier than the other. Yet it lacks any sense of accomplishment you might feel if you look for them all yourself. The choice is yours!

Find Them Throughout The Game

Sparkling spots in overworld areas and elsewhere have a chance of containing the Magic Carta card for their given area. You will need to scour every region until one of them pops as the card. It could happen your first time; it could happen on your thirtieth!

You'll also obtain many Magic Carta cards by completing inn requests in various towns, as well as filling out each town's stamp card. Combined, these three methods will net you all 90 cards... eventually. It's quite a tall order!

Unlock Them All Via Free DLC

On the other hand, you can acquire every last Magic Carta card, all 90 of them, from the beginning of the game by accessing the right-most tab in the items menu, which lists all the downloadable content which was purchasable on PS3 but now comes free with the remaster.

You can do this at any time if the slow churn isn't rolling for you. Clearly, it cheapens the whole process, but it wasn't a particularly complex process to begin with, right?

How To Play Magic Carta

Tales Of Graces F Remastered: Magic Carta, Explained

Once you've reached the town of Sable Izolle, you'll soon spot a man with a smiley face above his head not far from the entrance. As you'll no doubt have learned by now, these icons symbolize potential side quests.

After the initial conversation, you can play Magic Carta against the man, whose name is Carver. You can eventually choose from three difficulties, each with their own reward for winning, but unless you took the DLC card acquisition route, you'll likely not have them all when you first visit Sable Izolle.

Difficulties And Rewards

  • Easy requires you to possess at least 10 cards
  • Normal requires 20 cards
  • Hard is only available once you have 25 cards

Each difficulty level has an initial reward for winning, as well as a better reward for winning while preventing Carter from getting any points. That's kind of a lot to ask for, especially on Hard.

  • Easy: Apple Gel for winning; Asbel's Yuri Lowell costume if Carter earns no points
  • Normal: Book of Cuisine for winning; Sophie's Patty costume if Carter earns no points
  • Hard: A new title for Pascal for winning; Cheria's Rita costume if Carter earns no points

Magic Carta Rules

Even if you're well-versed in Tales characters, you might still struggle. If you don't know many very well, it's an impossible task without heaps of practice rounds. This is especially true since each difficulty adds more cards to the pool.

Here's how the whole thing works:

  1. The game begins with a pile of visible cards with Tales characters' faces
  2. Asbel will read a quote that is from one of the characters; your goal is to choose the corresponding card before Carter can
  3. Points are awarded after each round, with each round awarding more points than the last
  4. The game continues to be played until the difficulty level's point goal is achieved by you or your opponent

Magic Carta Tips

The number one way to ensure victory (or at least a fighting chance; Carter is absurdly swift on Hard) is to research your owned cards in the inventory menu, memorizing the first few words of each card, or alternatively, taking screenshots as needed.

It also helps to have an article handy which lists every card, and to pause whenever a round begins, taking the time to check. We'll have a full list of characters and their associated quotes very soon, which should be a big help.

The whole ordeal is certainly far easier if you're a Tales diehard.

Zavhert Port Prizes

There's another big use for Magic Carta cards: a man right near the dock at Zavhert Port will reward you with prizes for milestones in your card-collecting journey.

The Lost Anklet serves no immediate purpose. Bring it to Warrior's Roost's inn (such as it is) and check the list of requests here. You'll find a call for this Lost Anklet. Complete the request - but know that you'll only see it if you've reached at least the third floor of the Zhonecage.

Doing so unlocks a fun cameo fight in the Zhonecage.

It's possible that rewards for 60 cards onward are only given out during the Future Arc, which you can start after finishing the main story. We'll need to confirm this before we can say so for sure, but if you aren't getting anything for those tiers yet, you ought to be able to in the Future Arc.
